I pre-interviewed a candidate for very demanding clients, and despite my subtle hints to ask her to take her freaking horrible gold lame ski-cap off of her head, she will not take it off.
She also wore sweatpants.

3. I don't know the business you're in... |

...but maybe you're thinking of recommending this candidate to an outside company? And not referring her in order to protect your company's reputation is somehow not an option?

I was just pre-interviewing her for our very um...straight laced accounting team. She came in at 1 for a 1:30 interview. I couldn't tell her to change because she cancelled once.
Not a good way to make a good impression. I have gone to interviews in -20 weather wearing a skirt and heels because you are supposed to look professional.
I am sure she will not be a candidate for much longer. It sucks, but this is how it works.
I also was privy to one interview where the candidate said, in front of the CEO, "I don't have time for all of these questions." The CEO walked out, my jaw and that of 4 other people dropped, and the interview was over. Hence the process of pre- in person interviews to get a "vibe".
Phone screens and resumes are not enough.
