Poll question: What do you think about Guitar Hero?
My son was asked to bring in an example of a poll for his 7th grade math class. Thanks for your help!

Sure. We'll have four--what's one more? Especially if she's packing her own axe.

before he was killed in a terrible car wreck. After his funeral, she and her husband invited all his friends to come over and just hang out. They all played Guitar Hero, remembering their bud.

Spent half that time learning a real instrument, they'd get pretty good at the real instrument pretty fast.

She plays clarinet, bass clarinet, and trumpet. But she's been known to challenge her brother on occasion. My son is using Guitar Hero to kill time waiting for soccer and baseball season. I just hope it doesn't effect his pitching--Joel Zumaya missed several weeks pitching for the Tigers while he was healing from a "Guitar Hero Injury".

15. A brigh shining spotlight of a sign of the continuing devolution of our culture to fakery,
insincerity, and virtual easily-gained talent and feel-good success versus hard work and practice and real success.

It's a fun game, but I'd prefer that people took the hundreds of dollars they spend buying fake instruments, and the time they spend flipping a switch, and go buy a real instrument and make actual music.

Voivod is one of my all time faves. Progressive thrash before anyone thought of the two mixing. A ton of bands still say Voivod was a huge influence on them.

26. I played it at a relative's house for the first time...
...over Christmas, and was honestly disappointed. I'd read how copies of the game were flying off the shelves and how one guy sold his for $9,000, and was expecting the greatest thing since "Sliced Bread Simulator 4," but it was actually a bit crap. It took me about fifteen minutes to work out the controls, and then it was just a matter of timing. That's all there was to it. It was an amusing enough party game (especially watching my mother in law spectacularly fail to get to grips with the controls), but I could see it becoming boring very quickly.

The "boss fights" in GHIII saps away everything that actually make the games fun.

45. I don't play but I LOVE, LOVE watching my kids play
My ex felt that Guitar Hero is a classic example of how ruined our society is ("they should be out creating their OWN music, not playing OURS"). I know it's inspired my daughter to decide to learn to play real guitar and I think that's pretty great. While I realize it's not playing an actual instrument it is a rather complex system of matching finger to note and I'm no scientist but I would think it has to have at least a partial learning benefit of the same sort that is described with children who learn to play a real instrument. Besides, it's hilarious watching my daughters rock out to Heart and Joan Jett and I get to be the wise old lady and tell them about musical icons of yore. Back to the BS my ex likes to spout (usually when his tongue is loosened by too much Jack but I digress) I think all forms of art build on what came before. You never hear an artist say that they weren't inspired by some other artist. You find something you love, you imitate it, expand on it and that is how new art is born and I really think the same idea holds true for all learning. Not to say that all video games are educational but if a game can pique a child's intellectual curiosity how can that be a bad thing? Oh yeah and it's FUN. We don't let them do the dangerous fun stuff we used to do (Jarts, fireworks, biking without a helmet, etc) so wtf?
