Battlestar Galactica (new one) fans: WHO IS THE 5TH CYLON??
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 10:43 AM by janesez
So, the show's going to start back up in April, supposedly, and we'll all find out who the 5th Cylon is.

*****SPOILERS THROUGH SEASON 3 BELOW THIS POINT******

Okay. Still here?

So, this is speculation, of course, but I think the 5th cylon is Laura Roslin, and here's why.

1. It has to be a main character, and since we already know the Chief, Tigh, Sam, and Tori are the first 4, that leaves Baltar, Old Man Adama, Starbuck, Lee, and Laura, really. Unless they want to cop out and make it Gaida or someone minor, but I don't think they'll do it.

2. The old man would be a really interesting choice, since he's sort of the moral center of the show. It would be the ultimate expression of "humans are really no different from Cylons". However, I think he's ruled out because he had two children, and Hera, Sharon's child, was supposed to be the miracle baby, first Cylon/human child.

3. After everything that's happened with Starbuck, I just don't think they're going to make her the 5th Cylon. She's got something going on, and since Lee did watch her plane blow up and then all of a sudden she's back, it builds a case that it could be her, but I just don't think so. Call it intuition.

4. Laura got a sudden headache or some sort of pain when they entered the nebula, as the others were experiencing their "All Along The Watchtower" moment. Also, and this is the big thing for me, she had that dream in the opera house, and who were the others who had the simultaneous dream? Six (Cylon), Sharon (Cylon), and Hera (half Cylon). How could she have shared consciousness with them if she herself wasn't a Cylon?

5. Baltar is the ultimate representation of human failing, so I don't think it will be him, plus the Cylons told him he wasn't one, and he witnessed the 5 in the temple, so it wouldn't be him, would it?

6. The other option is Lee, but since he is Adama's son, I doubt that too.

So, those are my theories. Can you tell we just finished watching Season 3 last night? :D

1. Well Laura was injected with blood from the "miracle baby"...
So that may explain the headache and the dreams.

Would a cylon be dying of cancer and need the blood?

Starbuck seems like the obvious choice at this point which may mean she isn't but that could be an interesting double twist.

Basically I have no idea which is why I can't wait for the new shows.

5. Can a cylon get diseases?
I don't know!

I agree, Starbuck would be almost too obvious, and doesn't really allow for the payoff that her character arc should get, about where she went and how she came back. "Well, I'm a Cylon." "Oh, okay then. That explains it."

A little too pat, you know?

Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 12:01 PM by Cannikin
Knowing Ron Moore's trickery...then again...maybe he WANTS me to think that!

See the 3rd season episodes starting with 'Torn' about the disease.

2. racaulk floated #5 to me earlier.
I got to thinking about it, and I think there is a good possibility of that. Perhaps he isn't exactly Adama's son, but rather was found by Adama during the original Cylon war. Maybe Adama "adopted" him, thinking he was just a human kid that had been kidnapped by the Cylons.

I think in some sense, Baltar is the most cliched choice. He is the ultimate representation of human failing, and he also comes up as sort of a Christ figure at times. Instead of God-become-man, he's Cylon-become-man, and ultimately leads the Cylons (unwittingly) to annihilate the humans.

And with Starbuck...who the hell knows what's up with her? Her character is all over the map!

4. Lee would be interesting...
especially considering the arc his character's taking, pulling away from his father. Maybe that's why the old man said, "I'm through giving you orders". Maybe he's been so hard on him because he knows Lee is a Cylon and he wants to raise him to be a good human, and he's just given up.

On the other hand, didn't we see Lee with the people who were hearing the music, and he didn't hear it? I'm not sure about that... I can't quite remember if he was in any of the scenes in the bar with the radio.

Dualla is another choice, but I think that's a copout like Gaida. I just don't think people will care that much.

38. That would be entirely too convoluted.
Besides, in order for your explanation to work, not only Lee, but also his brother Zach must be secretly adopted.

17. Got "All Along the Watchtower"
stuck in your head still?

And that's a great pic. I've got tons of ideas swimming in my head. As I've reminded someone else here one of our five had a son with with a human recently. At least we think she's human.

(I'd bet Cally would stay human or the story won't be as dramatic.)

Be sure to click on the goblet next to Tigh. It is the most significant part.

BTW, Does anyone else here that music? There's too much confusion here.

8. Huh.
If none of them is the Cylon (and I don't really trust Moore not to try to trick the fans), then it has to be someone minor - Gaita, Dualla, Hot Dog, hmmm. I guess it could be Cali. I hope someone throws her out the airlock if so - I HATE Cali.

19. "And the fifth, though still in the shadow yet clawing for the light, hungry for redemption...
Edited on Wed Feb-13-08 11:58 AM by Cannikin
...that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering." - the 'Razor Hybrid'

The full prophecy:

“ Soon there will be four, glorious in awakening, struggling with the knowledge of their true selves, the pain of that revelation, bringing true clarity. And amidst confusion, you will find her... Enemies brought together by the apostle, enemies now joined as one. The way forward, once impenetrable, yet inevitable. And the fifth, though still in the shadow yet clawing for the light, hungry for redemption, that will only come in the howl of terrible suffering. I can see them all, the seven, now six self-described machines who believe themselves without sin. But in time, it is sin that will consume them. They will know enmity, bitterness, the wrenching, the agony of the one splintering into many. And then they will join in the promised land, gathered on the wings of an angel. Not an end, but a beginning. ”

Oh, and his final words...

"Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end. She is the herald of the apocalypse, the harbinger of death. They must not follow her. As my own existence comes to a close only to begin anew in ways uncertain. All this has happened before and will happen again, and again, and again, and again, and again............."

But I thought there were only 12 Cylon models, period.

It could be, as someone said above, that they are an earlier model of human-looking Cylons.

I hope Ron Moore sticks to his self-made rules, though. Otherwise, we're in X Files territory and I wasted enough of my life trying to puzzle THAT mess out before realizing even Chris Carter had no idea wtf he was talking about...

Something about her first name, Anastasia, meaning resurrection.

Dualla - (Dual)la

The hybrid mentions the 5th seeking redemption that will only come after terrible suffering. As focused on love as the human models seem to be, she's suffered a bit throughout the series. And Moore has hinted that we will see more of her 'dark side' next season.

41. I've long suspected Dualla
She's in the CIC and thus close to power.

She was in a relationship with the captain's son, which essentially put her "in the loop" at the highest levels.

In her job in the CIC, she relays orders between command and the rest of the fleet, giving her unparalleled access to intelligence.

If I wanted to insert a secret agent, Dualla would be just about the perfect choice.

Because a chain smoking Cylon is just too perfect.

More seriously, who better to NOT find any differences between Cylon and Human. He's not good at Cylon biology unless he needs to be. He discovered a vaccine for their virus pretty quick. And when Baltar was getting interrogated and things were getting interesting he said to stop it.

He helped get Sharon's baby away from her, that helped put the baby in play. So I think he maybe just hasn't been triggered yet.

P.S. The Cylons have their version of various types of humans. No version of a doctor though. (yet)

56. I keep wondering why they make such a big deal about Hera
when Cali's baby is half Cylon too. Wouldn't they have known about her? Does that mean that
Gaylon is NOT a Cylon? Or is Cali a Cylon? But I thought they couldn't reproduce without a human
mother...confusing.

Dualla does seem like a good choice, but she's been such a minor character for much of the show. It seems odd they
would make her the all-important 5th Cylon. Wouldn't Tigh have been more of a surprise?

I've been thinking they will get to Earth and find that everyone there is a Cylon-human hybrid and they have been for
generations.

We've been watching all the seasons over again to get ready for the last season. My husband has watched them all probably at least 5-10 times
each. His guess is probably netter than mine. :)
