Does Valentine's Day make anyone else sad, or is it just me?
I have a Valentine... my husband kissed me and wished me a happy Valentine's Day this morning as he left. But, as I looked around at many of my friends' myspace profiles, and I remembered two different horrible heartbreaks on this day (long stories... one friend of mine was raped on Valentine's Day many years ago), I suddenly got sad. Expectations... that's what I resent. I don't like any holiday that *makes* a person tell their SO they love them, etc.

Am I being whiny, or does anybody else feel ambiguous about this day?

Oh, btw, Happy Valentine's Day. *sigh*

p.s., I guess I better make some coffee now, huh?!

1. I love you toooo!
I get to say that 4000 more times before it is overdone :)

I say I love you every day. On Valentine's I say it until it annoys even me

it does make me sad too. At least a friend sent me a funny early valentines goofy thing yesterday that helped a little.:-(

that was kind of them. I didn't send out a single card this year... though, I should have. Hey... hang in there. There are people, I assure you, who envy your independence!

5. I understand
My Mom died 12 yrs ago today. Since then, there's a sadness to the day too. Just try to remember there's still a lot to enjoy and be happy about.

Happy Valentines Day KC2.

I know I tend to feel more melancholy when I first get up, takes two cups to get me going. Hoping you feel better.

13. My wife's mother died four years ago today
Valentine's Day is usually pretty somber around our house. She's a very sensitive type and I try to pull her out of it every year, I'm just not that good at it.

a big hug from me.

Don't blame yourself, it's just something she'll probably feel for a long time. Mine has lessened considerably through the years but some V days seem worse than others.

I took the night off from work. I don't expect any Valentine's Day greetings from anyone. I better have a someone by this time next year though.

15. No...it's perfectly understandable
I also get depressed on this day -I've never even been in a relationship in my life and the day just reminds me of my failure. I avoid television and radio on this day because I know it will play up the significance of Valentine's Day and true love and all that and it really hurts.

I'm so sorry for your friend    And if it happened on that day then of course it's understandable that you'd feel sad on that day. And I partially agree with you about the second part of your argument as well -the significance of Valentine's Day is over-hyped and the media and popular culture shouldn't make it out that there is this one special day where you're supposed to show love and affection above all other days.

My thoughts, positive vibes, prayers and whatevr else I can extend to you KC2 and to all those who are experiencing similar feelings about Valentine's Day

16. I'm glad I looked back, again...
I keep trying to get started with my day, but.. well, I'm being very lazy.

So, you have *never* been in a relationship in your life? Really? Well, you are still young I'm sure. I'm sure, too, as intelligent and articulate as you are it is only a matter of time. They say there is someone for everyone... and I believe that. The tricky part is finding that someone at the right time!

17. Thank you very much KC2 for your kind words
I don't consider myself "intelligent and articulate" but am very flattered that you do -that means a lot to me. I try and cling to the belief that you expressed above -that there is someone for everyone -but I just hope that's true because I don't want to continue in my present state for the remainder of my life

Anyway, thank you once again for your kind words KC2. They mean a lot to me:hug:

Even when I was single. It's just a day; if you have somebody to share it with, great. If you don't, it's not the end of the world.

I just can't imagine playing with someone like that, its just...wrong. I just feel...used, you know? Eh, she used me to get what she wanted(on and off boyfriend jealous), and then dumped me when she didn't need me. It still hurts. :(

41. Yeah, I think a lot of people don't know what love is...
The really paradoxical thing about love is that I want it, but at the same time I don't like the feeling of vulnerability it involves, giving my heart to another. Eh, now I'm being philosophical here.

And yes... I'm right there with you. Only I don't have a problem with the vulnerability... so much as I have a problem with finding it so hard fo find someone who loves me.

Shit. Now I'm feeling very sad.

40. I've always been single and lonely, but this is my first time when I have someone
Also new years was a first for me too. I hate holidays where I have to go visit my family, but this time I came back to be with my girlfriend for new years. And I get to be with her today! this is the first time I've had a Valentine's date. Our real valentines date will be when we go to Chicago this weekend.

I'm sorry about what happened to your friend.

I make sure to tell my gf I love her just about every time I talk to her. It never loses it's meaning no matter how often I say it.

45. I was more sad last Valentines Day
when I was in an emotionally empty, crappy relationship that dragged on and on because of my fear of being alone. It's such a relief to be single. I'll celebrate by eating discounted candy and listening to "Red Rubber Ball" over and over again.
