... are ever allowed to legally do so.

No live bands at our wedding. Just a good DJ, spinning tunes that are special to us. And yes, I really do have a super secret playlist I keep, just in case the big day ever arrives.

He has no idea.

Uncle Cracker's "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o6d7libPt6Y">Follow Me" will be the one guaranteed to make him cry (and he's only done that in my presence three times, in nearly 14 years). I tuck him in every night, plus the song captures the innate weirdness about each other that has us swimming through each other's veins, "like a fish in the sea." So he'll be crying through laughter to that one: and we'll both turn to each other and say, truthfully, "I can guar-on-tee, you won't find nobody else like me!"

And the final dance, just the two of us on the dance floor? That'll be me, bawling and blubbering over his shoulder, swaying around slowly, to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNYID7TQ-_M">Groovy Kinda Love.

- Dave

1. Our wedding song was "A Song For You" by Donny Hathaway
And yeah, we cried. :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnkl-YQ-XWU

I love you in a place where there's no space or time
I love you in my life, you're a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and I was singing this song for you

We just got married in August, so we're still all schmoopy. In fact, you've given me a good idea. I'm going to put this song on when we get home from dinner and dance around the living room with my man...the cats will think we're nuts.

6. "schmoopy"
Don't ever lose it. If St. Peter won't let me in, I plan to at least have a thank you note tucked in my back pocket. I'll ask him to pass it along to God: "Thanks for Patrick."

Two weeks before the two of us met, I'd written down a "prayer to God" in my journal, asking Him to send me someone to love.

That was one prayer that got answered a lot faster than I expected.

Make the cats meow at the madness of it all. Often.

For me, the candidates' "wide stances" on this issue is very important, as you might imagine.

But DON'T ASK one candidate. Coz she DON'T TELL no straight answers on this one.

11. Partner A gets great job in state that doesn't recognize the ceremony...
... and suddenly, you realize, you're not in Massachusetts, anymore, Toto.

Think of all the benefits that remain intact for married couples, no matter where they happen to move. Or travel on vacation.

Your spouse gets injured (God forbid) while hamming it up for the camera on water skis, hundreds of miles from home?

Still his legally-recognized spouse, nobody is going to naysay you the right to come make fun of him in the hospital bed, and show him the tape of what happened.

14. "I'm with Cecille."
Edited on Fri Feb-15-08 10:17 AM by CorpGovActivist
I was in my 30s before I realized it was, "Our Lips Are Sealed," and praise Jebus for the Interwebs lyrics lookups. That song never made sense to me. "Who the hell is Cecille?!?" I used to wonder, when they'd get to that non sequitur in the song.

In the case of this particular song choice, though, there are multiple storylines going on in the video, and art being subject to personal viewpoint interpretation, I'm gonna say, the lyrics fit just fine for us.

19. I know it sounds cheesy, but
when ThinkBlue1966 and I get married someday, one of the things I want is to stand up and sing "Annie's Song" to her.

Come let me love you, let me give my life to you
Let me drown in your laughter, let me die in your arms
Let me lay down beside you, let me always be with you
Come let me love you, come love me again...

Most people think that it's a stupid song, but I tear up practically every time I hear it. :hi:

38. I think the song that best expresses where I'm at with my S/O...
is "All For You" by Sister Hazel...

Finally I figured out
But it took a long long time
And now there's a turnabout
Maybe cause I'm trying
There's been times, I'm so confused
All my roads
Will they lead to you?
I just can't turn
And walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
Words can't say, I can't do
Enough to prove it's all for you

And I thought I'd seen it all
Cause it's been a long long time
Oh but then we'll trip and fall
Wondering if I'm blind
There's been times
I'm so confused
All my roads
Will they lead me to you?
I just can't turn
And walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
But words can't say, I can't do
Enough to prove it's all for you

Rain comes pouring down
(Pouring down)
Falling from blue skies
(Falling from blue skies)
Words without a sound
Coming from your eyes

finally I figured out
But it took a long long time
And now there's a turnabout
Maybe cause I'm trying
There's been times
I'm so confused
All my roads
Will they lead to you?
I just can't turn
And walk away

It's hard to say what it is I see in you
Wonder if I'll always be with you
But words can't say, I can't do
Enough to prove it's all for you

30. I hope that day comes sooner than later
I'd cry over that, too. Let's face it, to find the one person that loves us despite our faults and idiosyncrasies, the one person that no matter where they are, it's home, is nothing short of a miracle.

Everyone deserves to be tucked in at night by the person they adore, don't they? (Everyone also deserves the dignity of having their love recognized by the state as well, but that goes without saying.)

I can't wait till you and Patrick, and millions of others, have that wedding. We'll be dancing right along with you.
