Internet Appreciation Thread.... |
|
I tell you what, I couldn't do what I do for a living without the internet...
Ten years ago, I would have been sitting at home collecting disability and probably reading or watching TV...
Now I can still do some work because of the net...
People can PDF me their tax stuff, I E-File and then PDF or mail their documents back to them....
I research with the Tax Code or political databases on line...
I download pretty much any tax or state campaign forms I need...
I can verify tax local tax information on line, such as property tax information...
I can research and check words instantly so that my vocabulary looks real good like...
Not to mention I can stop in here for a moment...
Or surf for porn...
Or listen to music I would never hear anywhere else...
Or watch stupid videos on YouTube....
It's just wonderful...
And everybody takes seems to take it for granted...
Not me...
I can live a fairly normal life because of the Internets...
These glorious tubes we are all connected to...

1. It's amazing isn't it? |
|
Remember the libraries most firms had with the IRS regs in them? Dozens and dozens of volumes taking up a whole room.
And the forms. I hated going downtown to the IRS office or wait for one to come in the mail.
How've you been feeling?

3. I understand that feeling in your case, but I think my life was easier before. |
|
Yeah, I had to cart the files for the print ands and catalogs and show booths around to my vendors (or mail them) instead of being able to send files via e-mail or ftp, but ONE thing was a helluva lot less annoying: When I produced something for a printing press, I KNEW what it would look like when it came off that press...unlike creating website, where I have to take into account what fucking browser people might be using, whether that browser acts like it's supposed to, on and on, ARGH!
But that's just me. Oh, and I will indeed thank the use of e-mail for allowing me to get rid of that goddamn annoying FAX machine about six years ago.

My god, how my life has changed...
Stumbling into this place...
I can honestly say it has changed my life, and in all good ways...

8. When I earned my discharge from the USAF, I moved to Ann Arbor |
|
I used my GI Bill educational benefits to attend a trade school/community college. My main courses were in the industrial arts, welding and machining. I used an elective credit for a music course. The professor was a happy man that welcomed me and my brass lips. The field trip for this music class was to the Notre Dame Jazz Festival. I actually played on stage at the Notre Dame Jazz festival. I still shake my head in wonder. Years later (almost thirty), I found a jazz program here on DU. In the lounge. The host of the show had been a student of that jazz professor fifteen years after me. The internets make for a small world.
Hello Jessica!
