Mid-century Vintage Fans: LOOKIE WHAT I FOUND!
I was up in Lake Tahoe at a funky little shop that raises funds for the local hospital and saw this beauty out of the corner of my eye as I was walking out the door. I literally stopped dead in my tracks -- I couldn't believe what I was seeing.

I walked over to get a closer look and found that it was in near pristine condition -- no wear on the gold work, and the glass had no scratching/clouding. I checked the price tag, prepared to have a small heart attack at what they were asking, and found it was selling for a whopping $10!!!

I swept it up in my arms and hurried to the cash register, afraid someone was going to discover they had a treasure on their hands and snatch it from me.

The cashiers were two old gals who wondered aloud to me why on earth someone would want it since it was kind of ugly and old-fashioned. :D I just nodded and smiled, paid my ten bucks and got the hell out of there as fast as I could.

I just LOVE it when I score something so fabu at the thrift shops!!! :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

If you have any vintage treasures you've found, post some pix! I love looking at other folks vintage finds.

11. I haunt thrift stores...
looking for the good stuff. :) Problem is, here in SF everyone else is doing the exact same thing! The local thrifts have caught on and have started charging big $$$ for their vintage items. :(

4. Wow
That's astoundingly ugly.

I don't really understand the attraction to mid-century vintage, possibly because I lived through those times and dumped that ugly stuff at the Goodwill. I like my vintage from before the 40s.

It's gone.

I had a whole set of those mushroom canisters, too.

10. I think it's a bit of nostalgia for me...
because I was born in '60 and grew up with thsoe types of items in my grandparents house.

As for dumping the "ugly stuff" -- you silly boo, you should have kept it all and sold it on eBay! You would have made a small fortune off of "ugly stuff" lovers like me! :D

14. I think it's rather pretty
I'm more into Art Deco myself, but have an appreciation for mid-century stuff too.

15. That's kind of the feeling I had...
as I went to the register -- like someone was going to rip it from my arms! I've come close to duking it out at some of the thrifts -- this guy and I really went at it over a $5 vintage Hawaiian shirt at Thrift Town here in the City. He went after the "you're-a-girl-and-don't-need-a-man's-shirt" route with me -- so I was doubly anxious to get that shirt! :P

12. Love, love, love it.....Mid-Century is my...
my passion.

I have 7 swag lamps in my home. I can just about
determine the magnitude of an earthquake here by
the amount they sway.

Keep up the good work...

18. With a name like "Tikki"...
I know you are a fan! :hi:

Tikki is another passion of mine -- I am doing my entire backyard tikki style, with wonderful birds of paradise, bananas, and palms, with a thatched hutch for my bunnies and an 8' tall tiki god sculpture that I am making! Tikki curls my toes. :D

I have some good swags -- not nearly as many as you, though. My next dream is getting a Sputnick light fixture for my dining room. :loveya:

13. Yeah...most "Thrift Shops" are anything but.
You're best bet for finding a gem is garage/yard sales.

20. I agree!
I have noticed the prices steadily rising in the past few years. I went to one a few weeks ago, found a shirt I liked, and immediately put it back on the rack when I looked at the $7 price tag. Granted it was an expensive brand name, but WOW!

17. 150 pieces of Fire-King in a thrift shop for $5...
...in mint condition. In a big ol' box. I fairly waltzed out of the shop that day (despite having to lug that heavy box).

One person's trash is another one's treasure. That's for sure, eh? I love your chip 'n' dip find, by the way. Good eye!
