Man, is my father insane or what?
Today my father went to airport to meet Condoleeza Rice. For months now the Bush dministration has been pressuring him to become the small business advisor in Iraq. They have been calling him for about a year about this and he keeps turning them down, but tday they sent Condoleeza Rice to woo him to take the job. And he will be introduced at a White House press conference standing next to * and Condi.

Of course this is absolute bullshit. H has been telling this story for a couple of years. He is 80 and pretty small potatoes in the business world. he should be very proud of what he has accomplished with what he had, but he is in no way suitable for thistype of position. he doesn't even know how to turn a computer on, use a daily planner or write a business plan.
Usually we just shine him on about this (and his many other) fantasies, but this time he actually drove out to the airport. I think he has taken one more step to total insanity.

Nice rant.

4. Well that is a whole 'nother can of worms....
my Mother just lets him do what he wants. She has been abused for so long now, that it is easier to let him have his way than to piss him off.

And as for me, i have tried to deal with him, but he calls the cops, they come, he acts sane and I end up in handcuffs. maybe 20 times over the past five years. he calls them for elder abuse, and like spousal abuse, the police always take the elder or spouse's side of the story. eventually it works out but really it is something I nver wantto deal with again.

So getting him to voluntarily go to the doctor is not within the realm of possibility.

9. If we took his license away from him.....
he would still drive. Then if and when he gets into a wreck it would be a disater cuz he won't stop driving. He is a horrible driver too, but the DMV keeps giving him his license.

My mom is 82 and she is great driver, but he is really really really bad.

10. We are sort of in the same boat
My poor mom is going down hill fast. She is mad as hell at me because I don't want her to drive anymore. I've been advised to go to Alzheimer Association meetings for family support. I've been in a huge quandary this past year about what to do. My friends just talked me out of moving in with her. She needs more help but does not want to move out of her home. Sorry to blather on about my problems. I hope it sounds like support in that you are not alone. You must be as frustrated as I am.

11. Frustrated is the word.....
He does not have Alzheimers though. He is just crazy. His tall tales have been part of the family forever.

Anyways thanks for the suppot, it is really hard to talk about this stuff with anyone much, so it is nice to know there are others that care out there....
