why is it when you skin your knee that everything else hurts? |
|
Tripped over a sidewalk seam today and skidded on both knees and palms. Okay, I can understand the big lumps on the knees, and the bruised palms, but why hours later do all your other muscles and joints hurt?
Is it just that everything essentially gets a little whiplash-like movement? I don't know enough about physiology to get it. I've wondered about this since I was a kid.

1. You basically described it quite well. |
|
Your whole body received a jolt when you fell; thus, you can feel sore all over.
Hope you feel better soon!

2. Probably 'cause you're doing it wrong? |
|
:P
Seriously, your guess sounds good to me. The sudden stop at the end of a fall would be a stress to any muscle that is being used to brace yourself - it would likely lead to soreness...

5. Or whack your shin a good one. That works for focus as well. |

6. That's the ol'muscle impact after-effect |
|
It's like an all over body shock...all your muscles took the sudden impact to some degree.
Had the same thing happen to me Halloween night 2006.
Several days of other muscle soreness.
Take a long warm bath several times over the next few days, and take ibuprofen.
