MY SON CAN COOK!!!!!!!
I am in shock. He and his SO came up for the weekend. It was my B'day on Saturday. He cooked dinner Saturday night and it was gourmet. He did this all by himself with unbelievable ease and didn't trash my kitchen! Everything came to the table hot. This is the kid who was raised on Chef Boyardee (sp?) and hot dogs. He says he loves to cook...who knew? He uses spices and makes gravy from scratch! He doesn't overcook anything...unlike his mother. I was blown away...things you don't know about your kids!

3. I do not have a clue! Certainly not from me! I think he just picked
it up. He does have a few friends who are chefs. I have never been a good cook. I have the Irish DNA that makes me overcook everything. There are some things that I do very well but it takes a lot of effort and I seldom try anything new. He seems to be a natural at it!

6. I belive the cooking gene skips a generation
My mother-in-law, while not a terrible cook, is unimaginative at best (my first experience with her culinary skills coincided with a Friday in Lent - she served fish sticks). My husband, on the other hand, is a FABULOUS cook - he'll take on just about any dish, with the exception of pate (because he knows I make a kick-ass pate!).

Glad your birthday was so special and memorable.

8. My mother was the queen of fishsticks! I think it skipped two generations
in my family!

15. You may be right.
My sisters and I had to learn to cook in self-defense. Our grandmothers were both great cooks but Mom was...well, just plain bad. And that's being kind.

However, if eating her cooking would mean I could have her back, I'd clean my plate at every meal and never complain.

7. Happy belated birthday!
my spouse's birthday was Sunday. I should have sent him up there to celebrate with you since it was his big 4-0. He was depressed and even his favorite chocolate cake didn't seem to snap him out of the funk.

13. Well, you never heard me complain of chapped nipples
when I was breast-feeding (or the accompanying mastitis).

But I will whine over a hang-nail, so what's up with that?

16. That is great!
I tried to teach my kids basic meals when they were growing up (pork chops, chicken, lasagne, roast beef). My daughter went further and has all kinds of imaginative ways with food and spices. My son is still stuck on spaghetti and Ragu. My spouse has always preferred bologna and cheese to any kind of a meal.

I taught my son, bought cookbooks for him, and he can do a gourmet meal if he has to. Will's a keeper!

He's going to make someone a fine little haushusband some day.

*sorry, I just couldn't resist.
