Speaking of the Damn GIRL SCOUTS and their damn cookays.... I am SUPER pissed this year

They changed bakers!! And not only did they change bakers- the recipes changed.
The Samoa that I have known and loved for as long as I can remember now SUCKS.
It is now called the "Caramel deLite" and it is not so delightful.
The chocolate has totally changed & the flavor is a thing of the past.
The peanut butter tag-a-longs are totally different too- they are now called Peanut Butter Patties.
I liked them (having never really eaten them before) but 6 people I work with who buy boxes and boxes of them each year all complained to the cookie mom about how awful they were.

If they had to change bakers, could they not have kept the same recipes?!?!?!?!?!
I'd have paid more per box to have the flavor stay the same.

I am jonesing for a REAL Samoa... but, that isn't going to happen any time soon.

8. Might be different.

The girl selling them at the local grocery had chocolate chip in addition to those, and the lemon cookies were rectangular. She didn't have any of the tagalong/peanut butter patty cookies left, so I don't know what they're called here this year.

6. Information that I received...

*Cookies are $3 per box
*Girl Scout cookies are made in the US at one of two union bakeries
*Girl Scout cookies contain no trans-fats and no high fructose corn syrup
*Unlike the Boy Scouts, the Girl Scouts of America does not discriminate against gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender parents or children.
*GSA & BSA are completely separate organizations. Girl Scout fundraisers do not raise money for BSA.
*Girl Scout cookie profits support the local troop
*Girl Scout cookies are sold only once a year... & they freeze well
*This year's cookies: thin mints, samoas, tagalongs, lemon chalet cremes, trefoils, do-si-dos, all abouts, and sugar-free chocolate chips
*For more info on the cookies (including pictures & nutritional info etc.):

7. Maybe they just changed bakers in my area and that is why the
cookies are named and taste totally different.

11. I'm in NC and got Caramel De-Lites and Peanut Butter Patties.
And they didn't seem as good as I remember, but maybe it's just my memory.

Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 07:53 PM by LibraLiz1973
When all the kids are selling my favorite "crack".
I LOVE ME SOME SAMOAS. I could go on and on about them.
I don't even LIKE other cookies all that much!
But Samoas... OMG. The best.

This year? Big freakin let down.

17. I'm wondering if one baker is better than the other. I also got charged $3.50
Edited on Mon Feb-18-08 07:57 PM by Hissyspit
not $3, which I don't mind. It's a fundraiser.

Hope they're not messing up the cookies, though! I'm thinking it is the loss of the transfats. They used to be much more fattening if you look at the label.

I got some Thin Mints and they seem fine.

18. Bring on the fat!! It's a once a year thing. Can I not have the option
to buy the OG Samoa?

Hopefully they will soon realize that this is like "New Coke"

16. Not all troops sell the same cookies
and sometimes the cookies are just named something different, depending on the region.

Last year, they eliminated trans fat from their cookies, so maybe that's why they taste different

BTW: You can freeze them for up to a year.
