8. I'm calling foul. Butte is pronounced byoot. It means a small mountain range.
If you're saying "butt pirates" you're either thirteen or illiterate.

9. If my memory is accurate ( always iffy) :
Students at Northwestern tried to change Wildcats to the Purple Haze, and at Stanford they attempted a change to the Robber Barons. Inexplicably, each was vetoed by their administrations. And I've always been disappointed that the Houston Astros farm team at Kissimee, Fla. wasn't also named the Astros.

10. HAHAHA!
i'm ashamed to admit that i'm a ucsc alumni, and therefore a former banana slug. the ucsc mascot used to be the sea lion, until one very marijuana smoke filled night when someone said, "dude, you know what's awesome? banana slugs. you know what would be even more awesome, bro? if we changed our mascot to the banana slug." the administration went along with it because 1. they were also stoned, and 2. ucsc isn't exactly known for it's team sports. unless you consider stoner drum circles and beer pong team sports.

for something other than banana slugs, weed, and having the highest concentration of lesbians in any population known on earth.

14. They must not have heard of the Evergreen State College Geoducks
The geoduck is mollusk native to the Pacific Northwest. The geoduck (pronounced "GOO-ee-duck") is the largest burrowing clam in the world, weighing in at anywhere from one to three pounds at maturity. The appearance of geoduck's large, protruding siphon has led to the belief that the geoduck has the properties of an aphrodisiac. The geoduck has a life expectancy of up to 150 years with the oldest recorded at 163 years.

Runners-up:

• The Lansing Lugnuts, a Blue Jays' Class A club in the Midwest league, whose logo is a bolt, not a nut:

The Modesto Nuts, a Rockies' Class A club in the California League, whose logo features Al the Almond and Wally the Walnut:

• The Kewpies, from a small-town Missouri high school attended by a former co-worker.

• The Haybalers (usually shortened to "Balers"), from the high school right here in Dogforsakenhellhole.

The Kaukauna High School Galloping Ghosts.

24. This article dissapointed me.
The mentioned the Kansas City Wiz, before MLS had to change the name to Wizards. However they didn't mention that another one of the MLS teams at the time was the Dallas Burn.

So, you would get matches featuring the Wiz and the Burn.

33. The Fisher, IL Bunnies
I saw a proud Fisher High School mom all decked out in her "BUNNIES IHSA CLASS 1A FOOTBALL PLAYOFFS!" gear at a restaurant here in town and had to bite my tongue. I think they painted the playboy bunny on their helmets.
