Poll question: Men of DU: Would you take a birth control pill for men?
If there were no side effects would you be willing to take a birth control pill for men. Rubber is just so hazardous to our landfills (that's right I'm an environmentalist, that's why I hate the damn things. wink)

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3543478
“I never had any real noticeable side effects. I didn’t notice any mood changes. I may have put on a little weight,” says Larry Setlow, a 39-year-old computer programmer with a small software company in Seattle. He has taken part in three male hormonal contraceptive clinical trials at the University of Washington and has received both pills and injections.

“They all worked really well and I was able to look at my lab results and see my sperm count drop to zero,” says Setlow.

2. I had birth control surgery for men.
If I were younger and wanted more children, most definitely.

The surgery though - although the recovery in my case was somewhat painful - has been a delight, once you get over it.

5. Not until we've got a good 40-50 years of historical testing behind it.
I'm loathe to do things that change the natural way a body works. But with 40-50 years of usage, we should have a good picture of how safe the thing is, and then, if it is shown to not have any adverse side effects, I'd be willing to take it, God willing that I'm still alive and sexually active enough in my 90s to need such a pill.

7. in a second
my gf goes back and forth on birth control, because she doesn't like what it does to her, which I understand - I think she's better off it, but also takes it for medical reasons. Also, condoms are kind of a pain, and I don't trust them as much (no babies for me, thank you).

25. Actually, no good golf ball jokes to tell
Guess I was just lucky. The procedure (other than getting the pain killer administered - we won't go into that) was remarkably painless, and the recovery was fast.

Can't complain.

21. In theory, no
In reality? The fella's better at remembering stuff (except my birthday :grr: ) than I am. I wouldn't quit mine though- even if I had no other use for it, it keeps my periods short and light, and I have low iron so that helps to keep me from needing to take those horrible iron pills.

It's not my womb, so if I want to take control of my reproduction, I've got to stay clear of it.

37. Did you know that European men carry "purses" on a regular basis?
They are called "man bags" and are highly fashionable, especially the black leather ones.
I am dead serious. I worked in a leather/travel store for 6 years and sold these man bags on a regular basis...:)

Frankly, I would just have the surgery done. It is a lot easier than remembering to take pills every day.

it's a two way street.

but then again, I've put the road block up on my side of the street, so unless that pill helps with other things than birth control, I really don't need it.
