1. i've avoided reading any tabloid |
|
accounts of ledger and what happened.
i'm glad you put this link up.
for me it explains a good deal -- do i think he purposely committed suicide? -- n. do i think he was in a state of not caring? -- yes. and i think that state induced a kind of recklessness that i can recognize in myself.
you take two -- it doesn't work -- you a different two -- that doesn't work -- you take a different two and so on.
i fascinated by this you man his life and death -- this account does a good job of painting him as i think he was. human, frail, extremely self conscious -- but at heart a very good man.

it wasn't Brokeback that made me notice him - it was "Candy". I too identified with him as a lifelong hyperactive, chronic insomnia sufferer - I know what it's like when the body is worn out but the mind will not slow down (much worse when personal problems hit)- it's strange the combination of stuff one will take in desperation for some sleep and peace of mind: I am duly warned.

Nice to see a story about a human being written by a human being.
I'll watch the Oscars this Sunday to see Jon Stewart and hopefully the Coen Brothers take a few prizes.....but when they do that retrospective of people who died....

I was really upset over this. Such a fine talent. Such a pretty man. Gone to soon.

8. I re-watched Brokeback Mountain last night |
|
And in the "Bonus Features" they had the actors discussing the "making of" Brokeback.
Jake Gyllenhall's comments about Heath Ledger are pretty insightful in retrospect. He said that Heath "wore his heart on his sleeve" all the time, that he was sooo "sensitive", and very intense. All of that was surprising to Jake Gyllenhall since he hadn't known Heath Ledger before they started working together, and only had bits and pieces of gossip that obviously didn't square with the man he came to know on the set.
