4. eBay has them more often than you might expect
And shipping's really not too bad, either.

But if you wind up paying more than a dollar per pound for a used one, you're getting hosed.

19. Harbor Freight has 55-lb anvils for fifty bucks
Much more than that and you're moving it with a forklift.

28. My hundred pound Fisher is very portable....
along with my forge and swage block. It's them 500 pound anvils that tend to become very stationary, yet I desire one (well, maybe a three-hundred-fifty pounder would be the ideal weight and still portable)

I lost my 'anvil' in a house fire in '96. It was just a little 6 or 8 incher for setting snaps and light work.

Along with other keepsakes from the farm such as a couple of bucksaws and a two-handed scythe.

I also have head of the family cast iron branding iron which makes a terrific paperweight.
