The Muse is a Stingy Mistress
I had a creative spurt a couple of months ago, and three poems came out over a couple of days.

Then nothing.

And this week, 2 more new ones arrived, unbidden, flowing out to the page.

And now I feel the muse shutting the door once again.

Oh, well. Back to my morning pages in the journal...

How does she treat you creative types?

RL

2. My dear Retro...
My muse has been quiet too...

But my poetry teacher is tutoring me over the internet...

I have homework again!

It helps me a lot to have someone say Write it now!

You just have to keep priming the old pump...

Good luck, sweetie!

6. Not a creative type,
but there were a couple times when a poem or two came knocking. NOW I'll have to try to retrieve them!

8. I haven't seen her in a while.
She'll stop by now and then when I'm not expecting it and just expect us to pick up where we left off... 'tis rather cumbersome.

11. My Muse has become a pev
I start writing about trees and snowfall only to end up nekkid by a fire on a bare wooden floor.

13. The Muse(s) and I have a contentious relationship at best.
Edited on Thu Feb-21-08 12:41 PM by BlueIris
Right now, the Muse of Prose has come back to basically kick my ass for concentrating on my health concerns for six months w/o writing regularly. She's pissed. My punishment? Thinking everything I've written in the last five years was crap (all of it). I'm feeling really, really beaten down.

14. Oh, I know that feeling...
I walked away from my muse for almost a decade.

She is most unforgiving...

18.  I never know if she was there until after the fact....
...When I used to write, I would just sit down and start something, anything. Through all that garbage, I would usually find a line or two that sparked something, and then go from there. It wasn't until after the fact that I would say, "Oh wow. That's not bad." or "WFT?" Unfortunately, I haven't written anything creative, aside from evaluations and awards for my sailors, in a very long time.
