LIVE Blogging at the Oral Surgeon's office... I need a hug and a laugh!
Edited on Wed Feb-20-08 06:20 PM by Radio_Lady
This is a pretty classy place... with an Internet node to use before the surgeon calls you into his white dungeon for nefarious purposes. Who would have thought it?

My #2 molar is coming out today after failed root canal therapy dating back to September 2007. The official diagnosis is "cracked tooth syndrome" - which dentists tell me is one of the most difficult problems to treat.

Cracks in tooth enamel do not show up on X-ray; all they have to go on is the patient's symptoms. I have had off and on pain for six months and the DUer who suggested I should "Just pull it!" when we discussed it on one of my first posts -- he/she gets the gold star. I would have saved myself much time and money.

So, all you young 'uns who think you can endlessly crunch down on popcorn kernels, ice, hard candy, or anything else hard (!) -- watch out.

I hope none of this ever happens to you. My simple advice as I approach my 69th birthday is --

Live each day as if it were your last, and, someday, you'll be right!

1. Audio Al is here and pledges to stay with me through thick and thin...
until death do us part.

That's comforting.

Of course, he knows nothing about dental surgery, but I just have to keep his smiling face in front of me and I should be fine.

Now is not the time to tell me your horror stories about dentistry. In general, they do the work with no problems.

However, one complication is that we are flying to Honolulu on February 26 and I have a referral to at least three dentists/oral surgeons in case I get into pain with a "dry socket." It's a common problem with difficult extractions.

Oh, I wish I were at Hanauma Bay right now to swim with the fishes.
I'm just trying to keep a good thought in my head while I wait.

Cordially,

Radio Lady

3. You should go for prophylactic (cleaning) visits. Teeth and gums get worse if you neglect them.
End of rant.
Do what you want.

My husband's father lived until 88 years of age and he never went to a dentist.

How about ORAL SURGEON and AURAL SURGEON? (That would be someone who cuts sounds together.)

5. I'm glad everything turned out OK, Radio Lady.
:)

I may have something similar- a root canal tooth that is
still causing LOTS of pain.

Ugh! ;(

8. Get it checked out. Root canal therapy is not supposed to hurt.
PM me if you want more information, but best to just search Google on Cracked Tooth Syndrome.

It's supposed to be the most difficult diagnosis of all. Nothing shows up on X-ray and the docs can only go on symptoms.

It hasn't been fun, but I'm glad it's over.

Peace, love and happiness,

Radio Lady Ellen
