What My Sister The Republican Sent Me Email |
|
Subject: INTERESTING
An interesting parable.
I bought a bird feeder. I hung
it on my back porch and filled
it with seed What a beauty of
a bird feeder it is, as I filled it
lovingly with seed. Within a
week we had hundreds of birds
taking advantage of the
continuous flow of free and
easily accessible food.
But then the birds started
building nests in the boards
of the patio, above the table,
and next to the barbecue.
Then came the poop. It was
everywhere: on the patio tile,
the chairs, the table ...
everywhere!
Then some of the birds
turned mean. They would
dive bomb me and try to
peck me even though I had
fed them out of my own
pocket.
And others birds were
boisterous and loud. They
sat on the feeder and
squawked and screamed at
all hours of the day and night
and demanded that I fill it
when it got low on food.
After a while, I couldn't even
sit on my own back porch
anymore. So I took down the
bird feeder and in three days
the birds were gone. I cleaned
up their mess and took down
the many nests they had built
all over the patio.
Soon, the back yard was like
it used to be .. quiet, serene
and no one demanding their
rights to a free meal.
Now let's see ....
Our government gives out
free food, subsidized housing,
free medical care, and free
education and allows anyone
born here to be an automatic
citizen.
Then the illegals came by the
tens of thousands. Suddenly
our taxes went up to pay for
free services; small apartments
are housing 5 families; you
have to wait 6 hours to be seen
by an emergency room doctor;
your child's 2nd grade class is
behind other schools because
over half the class doesn't speak
English.
Corn Flakes now come in a
bilingual box; I have to
"press one" to hear my bank
talk to me in English, and
people waving flags other
than the " Stars and Stripes " are
squawking and screaming
in the streets, demanding
more rights and free liberties.
Just my opinion, but maybe
it's time for the government
to take down the bird feeder.
If you agree, pass it on; if not,
continue cleaning up the poop!
------------
Typical right wing rant,
But they never rant about the $$$ billions of dollars being sent to Iraq to fund this illegal invasion
That is what I emailed in return.............. :hi:

3. do they honestly think that the health care crisis is because of "illegals" in the waiting room |
|
or that schools are failing because no one can speak English?
Jeez, we're in more trouble than I thought.

Please love me back by extending the same respect to me."
This is the text of an email I recently sent to my Republican sister, after she forwarded me a bunch of racist, nationalistic, crowing, alternately rightwing/libertarian crap. :grr:

9. Tried that with a brother. The crap kept coming. |
|
So I wrote an eloquent bit about knowing he was raised not be be bigoted, not to spread unfounded lies, not to go along with the herd, but to seek information to make intelligent decisions.... That fell on deaf ears too.
SO, the REPLY ALL button became my friend and I would blast both barrels at the whole chain of custody of the crappola. He fell silent and I figured we would never speak again. He returned and things were ok, until months later when he foolishly included me on the list of people he forwarded more garbage to. Happens about every 8 months. He seems to have memory problems
I hated to be rough on him, but I also figured I was not being honest if I cleaned the clocks of others who continued to spread propaganda then used kid gloves with him. Hey, I tried being nice. He wiped his feet on my feelings. When I came at him stronger, he did the Rush thing of trying to hide behind "It's a joke, what happened to your sense of humor?" That was when he bit off more than he could chew with me.
I won't take from him what I won't take from any other mindless winger. I KNOW he has a brain and I know he was raised better. Don't feel the least guilt for telling him so.

11. In not using a flame-thrower to clear that patio... |
|
...this "bird lover" showed more restraint than I tend to associate with right-wing neo-cons. Admirable. It is "interesting" to me how this parable seems so very different from those found in the Bible. When the Good Samaritan rescued the man who fell among robbers and was beaten, did he worry in advance that the man he saved might take his job? When Jesus miraculously provided loaves and fishes to the masses, did he concern himself with the lack of Porto-Potties in the near vicinity? Perhaps he wasn't quite so obsessed with shit.

14. Remind her that it was Eisenhower who warned us... |
|
...about the dangers of the military industrial complex. Oh, and a story in today's Washington Post indicates that Pakistan can't account for $1 billion of the billions we've sent it for their military, and that at least one administration official regards checking that out as "nickel-and-diming" funding -- as if a billion dollars were chicken feed.
David Cay Johnston also has a book out, a best-seller, called Free Lunch, which concerns corporate handouts. My impression is that it debunks the myth (so cherished by right-wing types)that CEOs are busy working their little fingers to the bone and creating wealth out of nothing, instead of using their power to finagle tax breaks and the like -- all while making hundreds of times what average employees earn.
