I think fate had a car accident in store for me today.
Edited on Fri Feb-22-08 05:49 PM by DarkTirade
I narrowly avoided one accident earlier today when somebody turned waaaaay shallow in front of me and crossed over into my lane. Thankfully my car has good anti-lock brakes, and I managed to stop in time. Despite it being a slippery road, and the fact that I was facing downhill at the time.

Then four hours later, as I'm coming home for the last time today, I turn right into my driveway and suddenly *THUMP*. Some poor kid who was behind me tried to slow down and go around me, but his wheels locked and so instead of veering left around me, he drifted right inside my right turn. Two cars can't quite fit in one driveway, so there was a bit of a bump and scrape there. And because of the slippery roads, the cops are slow as hell today, so he and his girlfriend had to wait around at my house for more than an hour until the cops showed up, took one look, and said there didn't even need to be an official report. Just need to call the insurance companies.

You'd think they woulda told us that over the phone instead of making us wait more than an hour. :\

Thankfully it was a very light bump, just a dent in the door and nobody involved was hurt. I was a bit worried though, since he hit the passenger side and that's where my rather old and fragile grandpa was sitting. But his car was even smaller and lighter than mine, and it was a scrape/glancing hit. I kinda felt sorry for the kid. Only other accident he's been in was last year at this same time of year. And he felt REALLY bad about it, since he knew it was his fault. But since it wasn't a direct rear-end, and there were slippery roads involved, he didn't get a ticket.

*edit* Oh, and did I forget to mention... the day started out with me slipping on some unstable ground that I couldn't see under the snow and twisting my ankle. I was planning on going skating today... but that's right out.

3. God I hate that
What is it with these fucking people and making shallow turns?

I have to go out later to work and I'm dreading the freezing rain.

8. Not only shallow turns... but a shallow turn in the most unsafe spot to do so.
Had I been driving anything with tires or breaks that weren't as good, there WOULD have been an accident there. It was only avoided because we just got the car, so the tires are new, and it came with damn good anti-lock brakes. Slippery road + downhill = not easy to stop.

Good luck with your drive. I hope I sucked all the bad road luck out of the air for today. :hi:

9. Yep. I was mostly worried about my grandpa
between his general fragility and the fact that he's already had a couple of heart attacks, a sudden shock like that isn't good for someone in his condition. But he was fine. Stayed calm and collected about the whole thing.

7. Wow, fancy graphics. Sorry about your accident.
yeah, the fate thing is interesting to consider.

I heard a story once about somebody who had something similar happen. She'd been driving along a road and almost got into a bad accident with another car...and then later that same day, in the very same spot, coming back in the opposite direction, a cat suddenly ran out of nowhere, in front of her car and she accidentally hit it and killed it. :(

It was almost as if something "had" to happen there. Weird.

15. I actually like it when I notice things like that
it reminds me of the Mystery of Life and how there's always still some Bigger Flow goin' on, under and through it all.....

It comforts me, somehow.
