Here I am, gettin' some kind of award. It's the only recent picture I have of me in uniform.

87. Navy Whites; nothing has changed :-)
It's been a minor eon since I left the Navy, but I agree, the whites are a love/hate relationship. The Service Dress Whites for the officers is one of the sharpest uniform around, but you can't do ANYTHING but stand around and look pretty. I was on an ASR, and basically couldn't leave the main deck without getting it messed up.

9. Cool. We just got rid of our Sun machines...
...they were our firewalls. Sun E250s to be exact. I kinda miss them. Now we use Sidewinders, which runs on Windows, and perhaps it's just familiarity but I was more comfortable with Sun. I even got to the point where I wouldn't even use the Gauntlet GUI to make changes, just edited the netperm-table text file.

:hi: Yes it's north central PA. I lived in MN for several years and it is similar to the north country. There are lots of hemlock trees here and deciduous trees. We're kind of in a snow belt - we receive the lake effect snow to some extent.

30. I don't really have any finished products up there.
Mostly due to a harddrive crash a while back. :( I managed to recover the files for Break Invaders eventually... after I'd given up and had gotten most of the way done with Break Invaders 2. D'oh.

I'm pretty much done with Break Invaders 2 though, I'll probably end up putting the full version on my site. I just have to do an animation for the end. :) And then I'm probably gonna start Temple of Gloom over again, maybe with a different graphics style too. I wanted to do a bit of Prince of Persia style running/jumping/climbing originally, so I think I'll try and do a slightly larger, more articulated character style so it can do that.

This was from last summer. We were installing a copper roof on the new library at Santa Clara University. It was taken in response to my wife.

I was going to the roof of our three story condominium project to inspect the gutters and she didn't want me to get too close to the edge of the roof so I had a co-worker take this shot. The poor girl really has no idea what I do for a living.

65. What he said is true...
The runway landing threshold is displaced a couple thousand feet for that very reason, and the visual glidepath clears the garage by the needed amount. The only result is that you have about 7000 feet of usable runway for landing, but we have that and less at a lot of stations.

121. LOL! No worries!

I saw many crayfish during my field work... guess i could have rounded some up if i'd thought of it! :D

Did you ever see the "Dirty Jobs" where Mike helped a biologist who studies water snakes up on Lake Erie? She is a good friend of mine!

Pond work, stream work, wetlands, you name it. My own stuff and volunteering too, and coursework. Grad school in a nutshell.

69. cuttin' brush!
I bet this will be the only 'work' photo of brush-cuttin posted in this thread. And I hope y'all will agree that I've got * beat in this department...

This was some Saturday work for a friend who wanted to expand her market garden, but she is working with only hand tools. I took one look at the field of briars and calculated that she would complete the project using a scythe around 2116 AD. When I got to her place with this brush mower, she kind of rolled her eyes and said "Boys and their toys..." An hour later when the acre was all mowed, she was less ironic. :hippie:

Anyway, my work clothes are filthy, and I've got that concentrating-too-hard blank look on my face, but, believe it or not, I am rather happy doing this kind of work.

96. the second picture was much hairier than the first
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 06:07 PM by Gargoyle
The first one was an old clothing factory where Carters made baby clothes. It went up on New Years Eve night. The second one the hydrant on the street was undermined and it took an extra 5 minutes to get water on the fire. Being balloon construction it got away from us and it was a total loss. Thanks for your service. My cousin just retired from the Navy last year after 21 years, 14 of them in subs and he couldn't stand wearing the whites either.
