I just spent the day at NIU, so the campus minister could have the day off.

The campus is pretty quiet, but I did speak with a few students. Most will return tomorrow, and classes resume Monday. I was most struck when students would say "I lost a friend", or "I know people who lost friends." These are 18, 19, 20 year olds, who have, in a week, become almost matter-of-fact about losing others to this violence. This just breaks my heart!! And infuriates me!!

I need to stay away from the gun discussions for a while.

I just hate that nowhere in this country is safe from gun violence. I am not sure what the answer is but it is not more guns.

3. It's fewer guns, among other things. But God forbid one should say it out loud.

Fewer guns and a less aggressive culture in general. But that's not likely.
