I had this thought while I was taking a shower..
No, not that! lol

I realized, I don't even like politics any longer.

I've watched and participated in political campaigns since Barbara Jordan gave her keynote address at the Democratic Convention. I was barely 15, I think. She moved me... she inspired me. But now it seems like an eternity ago.

Anyway, I'm tired. I'm worn out. I guess I am finally apathetic. Part of what bothers me is that both of the leading Democratic candidates seem to be backed by corporate money. And, it takes so very much money to win a campaign today.

Obviously, I will not vote for McCain. And I will still support the Democratic nominee-- whichever candidate is selected. Still, it just doesn't seem to be the process it used to be. Maybe it's just part of getting older... and having less spunk, as they used to say.

End of rant.

*sigh*

4. Thanks for reminding me to listen to "Standing in the Shower Thinking"
I'd post a Youtube link but I can't find one.

Besides, some of the lyrics are a bit TMI

3. My dear KC2...
I hear you, sweetie...

I think there are a lot of people who feel the way you do...

We grow up, and suddenly the choices look a lot less wonderful...

What happened to our dreams?

Well....we woke up to reality, and it's a lot less magical than we'd thought it would be...

I'm sorry...

5. Yeah..
Where did our dreams go?

John Edwards talked a lot about saving the middle class, saving our jobs from off-shoring... taking responsibility, and helping the poor. I'm just not hearing the same things from the remaining candidates... and I listen to them. I do.

18. I am not hearing the same things from them either ...
I am with KC2. Four years ago I was GLUED to the TV. I was so much interested in the 2004 Presidential Election as if it was a year long spring party to Cancun. I will never forget the momentum swell up right around the last weeks of October for the Kerry/Edwards campaign.I felt apart of the America that John Kerry talked about while he was campaigning - I did'nt feel a part of Bush's America, and I don't feel anything that Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama are saying. I hear and see everyone applauding their words and but I just don't feel anything at all. I care but this is just how do I say it,I feel left out.

6. People "not liking politics" got us GWB
Seriously....now he's screwed up so badly that people are fired up again but during the 2000 election so many people were like, "oh I hate politics" "oh there's not diff between Gore & Bush."

Like hell there's not. How many people would still be alive today if Gore had been Prez.

7. You might be right about that
But there are plenty of people in N. Texas, where I live, who loved * and supported him enthusiastically, too. Some still do... as insane as it is. :-(

But I don't see a lot of support for Bush with my friends. Even the republicans are pissed.

17. actually, after I got out of college in 1989
until my daughter was born in 2003, I had a lot less interest in politics. However, since she was born, it rekindled my interest because I want to do my little bit to try & make it a better world for her.

I think I lost some interest after the 1988 elections - I was born a few weeks too late to vote for Mondale in 1984, so was waiting so long to vote Democratic in 1988, that I had a severe letdown when Dukakis not only lost, but got his ass kicked. And, I was on the Dukakis bandwagon early on in the primary process...

20. Interesting, KC2. I was just thinking the other day that I was finally starting
to get excited about politics again. With Barack Obama in the race, it makes it possible to have high expectations about the Presidency again. Like a lot of people here, for years now, I've simply wanted a President who could pronounce "nuclear" correctly, and could find his way into a sentence without getting lost trying to find his way back out of it. Pretty low expectations, if you ask me.

I love having high expectations again. I admit my expectations for the 2006 Democratic Congress were higher than their corner-cringing do-nothingness has since warranted. But the 2008 Presidential race feels different. I'm excited again. Nervous, too. We could still lose this thing, and there is a lot of hard work ahead. But we can do it. B-)
