March Madness will be here soon!
As a basketball junkie, I can't wait!

:bounce: :bounce:

Anyone else desperate to see hours and hours of small and large college teams battle it out?

2. Memphis, and Tennessee
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 05:31 PM by tigereye
Notre Dame is pretty hot right now, as was Connecticut...

Sadly Pitt has not done so well of late.

I'm a UCLA fan, and I'm always glad to see them play. They have a great player in Collison. He's a pleasure to watch.
I also like Gonzaga and Villanova.

However, I love to see lower seeds knock off the 2 and 3 seeds...

6. You should pull for the school where Paul Wellstone was a varsity athlete
Sure it's no fun to pull for UNC because they're never the underdog but their old coach Dean Smith was very righteous from a political standpoint.

He helps raise money for Dems and he was very involved in the civil rights movement back in the 60s.

8. Dean Smith is a great advertisement for progressive politics
He emphasizes the benefits of working together to achieve a goal, as opposed to selfishness.

And instead of being "idealistic", the fact that his system works so well shows that it's very practical. Which is why UNC wins all the time.

10. I saw a great film about teams that recruited African-Americans for BB
back in the 60s...

amazing to think of how restricted things were back then. :( Good to remember whom the real progressives were. Seem to remember one Kentucky coach who wasn't that progressive...

Nice how pragmatics and progressivism often go hand in hand!

12. It's a spin-off of the term Hoya Paranoia
Or maybe March Madness begat Hoya Paranoia

And what the hell is a Hoya anyway?

15. I don't know - is it a political term of some sort? ;)
I forgot to mention Georgetown - they are doing really well the last year or two. Is their coach still the son of the previous coach? I always liked the dad and I hear the son is a great coach too!

16. Do you have any ideas about sleeper teams?
Or if UMass and BC might make it? (I haven't been paying attention)

Will Albany pull through this time?

12-13 overall (or was it 13-12 overall)

Maybe as a lower seed? I'll have to scrounge around and look for some analysis.

what conference are they in?

I know more about the BIg East and the Pac 10 than the other conferences...

Marquette always tends to surprise, I think.

18. They used to be in the Big East; joined the ACC last year
Edited on Sun Feb-24-08 07:36 PM by sniffa
and did outstanding in the first year in the ACC, going to the title game against (Duke? or was it NC?) and taking them to the limit before finally losing by a closer than expected limit.

I love March Madness as it gives unknown schools the spotlight for at least one weekend.
