Why do able-bodied people steal shopping carts.....
and leave them around the neighbourhood?

My 80 year old grandmother NEVER stole a shopping cart. And she got her groceries home just fine.

3. I like the new ones where the wheels lock up if you cross the exit line of the parking lot.
If it were my grocery store, a swinging boot powered by highly compressed air would also swing out from the cart and pop the thief right in the ole button-fly.

5. I don't know. Last year the corner where my apartment is was grand central
station of where people left stolen shopping carts. And then a month & a bit ago it just stopped. Very strange.

7. Good god! Why in the world would you force your 80 YO grandmother to haul your groceries home?
And what kind of punishment did you threaten her with if you caught her with a shopping cart?
