The look she gave me as I walked out the door....
My sister has been in the hospital for the past 4 days, which has left her lab Lady home alone during the days. I've gone over daily and walked Lady, and have even let her ride with me during the day, so she's been at least calm and happy while with me.

Today I took the puppy home after a long afternoon of going places, but she wasn't ready to be alone- I had to play fetch/keep away/drool on the rubber bone with her for a while. She was happy, wagging her tail, barking, and chasing that bone across the house. But I'd spent the morning getting my own medical treatment at the VA hospital, and I was fading. I had to come home to crash. I had to finally tell Lady goodbye, and I had to walk out the door while she stood there silently watching me going away.

I could feel those eyes and see that face right through the closed door.

Damn, I hated to do that to her- she has no idea where her mistress is, and I've been her only friend for days.

Good thing my sister is being released tomorrow- puppy love is such a burden at times.

Note: Yes, my sister's husband is home in the evenings, so Lady isn't alone all night. I'd let her stay with me, but she's terrified of the Nashville Cat. One hell of a quandary. One hell of a quandary.

Lady still looks forward to our daily walkies- I step inside the door and she does her "triple loop/flying leap straight at me" dance o' joy, knowing it's now time for us to go outside and smell things.

She'll forgive me- eventually.

2. Once your sister is home, Lady will forget the 4 days ever happened.
She'll be so overjoyed to see her.

4. There is only one response possible: awww
Thank you for being such a pal.

We have all these friends and then we abandon them or mistreat them.

Now many pets that are evicted because of foreclosures end up in shelters.

5. Luckily when I had to watch my parents' dogs I was working the night shift
so I was there during the day when they were used to having people about, and the time when they were usually left alone when my parents sleep was the time I went to work.

6. Took care of a pal's 2 rescued dogs when he was hospitalized for a week
Another friend went to feed them then I would come buy for play time and belly rubs. The nurse pal who fed them was fretting because the dogs stopped eating.

When I made a visit to the hospital, I brought a towel from they guy's home and rubbed it on his head and feet. Visited the dogs and gave them the 'dad scented' towel to check out. They were greatly relieved.

Scent conveys a lot of data to dogs and cats. If your sister is every away from the sweet Lady again, you might wanna try my trick and bring home the scent that will let Lady know her momma is alive and probably give a lot of scent clues about recovery.

7. Good idea.
If this situation ever repeats itself I'll be sure to do just that.

Thanks! :toast:
