The only skunk in Ogle County |
|
that is not in hibernation decided to eat cat food at my back door.
Of course, the stupidest dog in Ogle County (mine) decided to chase the skunk and then come indoors.
My husband went to the store and bought all the ingredients to give her a skunk deodorizer bath. Now the dog smells fine and everything else stinks to high heaven.
She is contrite. She better be. I am getting a headache.

2. There was one on my back porch last night!! |
|
Just when I was gonna put the beagle out for her last time before bed. I opened the door and got one strong whiff. Looked down and there she was! And I thought, "shouldn't skunks be hibernating?". I closed the door before the beagle had a chance. And waited an hour before we tried again. Happily, the beagle is both house trained and patient.
Could be the same skunk, I suppose. I mean Ogle and La Salle counties are pretty close.
Sorry about your dog. BTDT.

I have never seen skunks around here in the winter. It is not as though we have had a run of warm days to wake them.

6. I honestly did think that last night. I'm not sure I would've believed it |
|
if I hadn't seen it. I mean, I smelled it and thought it was skunk, but might have figured it had to be something else if it weren't right there looking up at me.
It really is strange, and I can't explain it. You're right, it hasn't been unusually warm, by any means.

7. According to Wikipedia, |
|
skunks do not hibernate in the winter.
Since I don't think they are always an accurate source, I looked in my World Book. The World Book article did not say one way or the other.

my guy got sprayed a few months ago. Now he never leaves the back porch to bark at things in the yard. He learned his lesson.

5. Mine should know better by now. |
|
She got skunked back in September. The weather was very nice then, so I was not surprised that a skunk was in the yard.
