17. Here's my shameful confession. |
|
I moved away from LA for a couple of years, and I found myself missing the high speech chase coverage a little. Not much, but a little. When I moved back and saw my first one on the news again, I was all like :woohoo:
But nothing will ever top the great Land Rover high speed chase (c. 2002), where the Rover drove and drove and drove, going through spike strips, etc., and finally ground down through the rims to bare axle before it stopped. There was--seriously--a rush of people buying them the next day at area dealerships, because they'd seen the chase and were impressed with the Rover's durability.

13. Ah, I see the daily 11am high-speed police chase started on time... |
|
I remember seeing one sitcome where they did a bit about his. It might have been "Yes, Dear". But one of these comes all and everybody just grinds to a halt, watching the TV. Eventually somebody gets hungry and picks up a phone to order chinese food, but is told to call back after the police chase!

...how, right after the reporter makes a big point of saying how the perp is driving erratically and at enormous speed, has already run over five pedestrians and assorted household pets, is mounting the kerb at every intersection and driving across people's front lawns at 125 mph, people STILL come out of their houses when the chase is in their area and stand in the street waving as the miscreant roars past.
That, more than anything else, sums up the experience of living in California for me.
