I want to start my own forum. Totally non-political, of course. Suggestions?
I am overwhelmed by the number of hosting sites, etc. I'm wondering if I need to buy a server and set up in my house, or what. I don't really have that kind of money, but I want to plan ahead.
Just wondering if anyone had any things they think I can't live without.

1. I doubt setting it up at home would be worth it.
Usually upload speed is much, much slower than download.

You can get web hosting cheap.

I use these guys but there are others equally good. Shop around.

You can set up a bulletin board easily and cheaply. PHPBB is one such board, but again there are others.

2. Had the company I use for my site not just been bought out
and completely changed from a nice, cheap, functional system to one that is cheap and a pain in the ass to do anything with I'd recommend them.

But since that is the case, I got nothin'.
