How do you pronounce "bury?" |
|
I'm in my mid-50's and most of my life I've said "bury" to rhyme with berry, Kerry, and cherry. So did everyone else. But in recent years, I've heard more people pronouncing it to rhyme with hurry and scurry.
Seems our language is evolving, even as we speak! :-)
Your experience in this earth-shaking matter?

8. "Berry" it six feet under |

But "burry" if it's at the end of a proper noun (Cadbury)

10. Not sure if it's regional--last night I heard it on local news. |
|
Heard it several other times but I can't recall where.

That's how they pronounce it in PA IIRC. They pronounce "Very" the same way (vurry)
Check out Jim Cramer on CNBC, he's from Philly. You'll see what I mean
