So...What are you reading right now?
I'm currently entranced with some Romance Novels. But my husband is not complaining. With my job, mindless entertainment is necessary in the evening and this is a great way to do it.
What are you reading?

1. I just finished a good read called Napoleon's Pyramids
by William Dietrich. It kept my attention pretty well, and I liked it well enough to be relieved that there's a sequel called Rosetta Key. And the friggin sequel was sold out at my local bookstore. Arg.

22. "Stepsister" is the only one I've liked...
I liked it well enough to SLOG through the others.

I read "Wicked" a long time ago and was ASTOUNDED
when they made a musical based on it!

WTF, they'll be falling asleep in the aisles!
I haven't seen it, but the MUSIC must be great,
because the plot was indecipherable!

I gave him another chance with the "Stepsister"
book, but he's failed to excite with the last
two I tried.....

In the words of Babs Bush, "I'm THROUGH with him!"

83. The musical is supposed to be great
My wife saw it on a business trip to NY, and raved about it. Then she bought the soundtrack, and both she and our son were singing the songs for a couple months! I've got to admit, the soundtrack is really good.

We both read Wicked - I didn't care for it, but she liked it. According to my wife, the musical is a lot different from the book.

Gave me the willies last night. Sometimes I think authors are showing off how they sneak up and put something so slightly off kilter when you least expect it. Its very good, though not as well known as her other books.

And a bit broke. :P

I just spent a huge chunk of my savings on all the back to school stuff I needed. I was a wee bit surprised when I looked at my balance at the end of the month... I knew I'd spent several hundred on books alone, but there were so many other little expenses... food on campus when I didn't have time to make lunch... little things that I'd bought and shouldn't have... I'm gonna need a job soon if this keeps up. :\ Not sure when I'll have time for it, but c'est la guerre.

57. Grab some toothpicks to keep your eyelids open. This is what I'm reading....
"Being Good: A Short Introduction to Ethics" by Simon Blackburn (should be done today)

Just starting

"Caring: A Feminine Approach to Ethics and Moral Education" by Nel Noddings
"A Feminist Ethic of Risk" by Sharon D. Welch

Needless to say this is part of a required reading list for school. I have 17 books, one website and one code of ethics to read between January 12-April 12. Fortunately I'd already read 2 of the books and the website and code of ethics were short. So all I have left at this point is 8 books. Real page turners too.

61. Currently...
The Falls, by Ian Rankin
Omerta, by Mario Puzo (not very good)
the third volume of Shelby Foote's Civil War trilogy (I forget the name of it!)

That's a pretty short list for me, normally I read a half dozen or so books at a time, but we've just moved, so everything is still packed :(

62. I just finished Atonement.
I enjoyed it. I haven't seen the movie yet. I like to read the book first.

Which brings me to restarting the Golden Compass series.

76. Give Us A Kiss by Daniel Woodrell
A Country Noir

Pretty good so far. Takes place in the Ozarks and features a writer named Doyle Redmond who hooks up with his brother Smoke and Smoke's girl Big Annie and her daughter Niagra (named after the movie, not the landmark, and mis-spelled on her birth certificate)to grow a bunch of dope and get rich. The other local family, the Dollys, are going to try to jack the crop. Like I said, pretty good so far.

Fascinating biological, historical and sociological study of hetero- and homosexuality. Required reading for anyone who considers homosexuality "unnatural".

82. "Mudbound" by Hillary Jordan
This is a shamless plug 'cause I am Hillary Jordan's stepmonster.

She won the Bellwether Prize for 2006. For those who don't know, this is awarded by Barbara Kingsolver to a first literary novel that addresses issues of social justice.

Mississippi after WWII, deals with racial issues. Written in first person voice. Give it a try. I read about 4 of the 11 revisions. I just got my "signed" copy this week.

88. Just finished the Conscience of a Liberal by Paul Krugman. Really good
overview of conservatives and liberals and how we got to what we have today. I understand the conservatives a lot better. Cluster****ers that they are.
