I wondered how they would keep things fresh, after two years of 'island/bio-backfill'. What would they do?
Damn.
They're good!
I still want to know about the shopkeeper lady (and those like her) in Desmond's flash-back last season.
Somehow it's tied in to this.

|
And I was shocked to find myself crying at the end. I really like Desmond and Penelope as a couple. I think they have great chemistry, and I think their part to the whole story is going to major.
If they have a tragic ending to their story, I am going to be PISSED!!!

I think Sayid just did what he did "on the fly" so to speak to help Des right then and there. Doing it that way must have been the quickest alternative. And like Des said... it was perfect

In ever episode that deals with them, you can feel the hurt, you can feel the love, it's so beatiful and painful all at once it makes me think of every woman I have even remotely had feelings for and/or had feelings for me.

It was a great standalone episode, in that it didn't go into all the other confusing storylines that I'm not sure everyone is really able to keep up with. And it was able to fuck with your mind while keeping you riveted to the screen the entire time.
This one was definite Emmy material. If not for the writing, at least for the acting.
I have to admit that I wept like a baby when Desmond made his phone call... and she answered.

Oh it was fantastic. I would say you're right, Emmy material. Desmond and Penny, they always make my heart feel all weird, lol. So much emotion, so much love, yet so much pain. Just awesome.

I Tivo it and usually watch it on the weekend but tonight my sister (who normally tries to spoil every episode for me) would only say "indescribable, you have to see it." So I did what any normal person would do, I took a long lunch break (I work at home) and watched it during work. So I have to work late to make up for it. It was SO worth it. My only complaint is that Desmond and/or Sayed should have been shirtless for at least part of the episode.
Also, the guy from the sick bay, the communications guy who died -- has that actor been on the show before? He looked really familiar.

43. No, but he's been on a million other shows before. His name is |
|
Fisher Stevens. We always remember him as one of Phoebe's boyfriends on Friends who declared, when she dumped him, that he hated her friends "with their coffee, and their BIG. CUPS. Which I'm sorry, might as well have nipples on them." It's a line my husband and I quote a lot (yes, we're dorks) so we of course immediately shouted that out as soon as we saw him.
I think he was also on that show about the guy who got a newspaper from the future every morning, with a problem he had to solve.
Anyway, back to Lost, I totally agree the show needed more partial nudity from Sayed or Desmond (damn, there are some fine looking men on that show). But other than that it was truly outstanding.

The phrase "unstuck in time" was mentioned three times last night. The first line of the book, 'Slaughterhouse Five' begins, "Today, LanternWaste (sorry-- I don't remember the protagonists name) became unstuck in time..."
I'm beginning to wonder if the tripping in Slaughterhouse Five was the genesis of the idea Lindeloff & Co. had in screwing with our little minds...

My money's on the Communications Officer who died in the third act last night as Ben's mole on the ship. Just a gut feeling...

Dammit. You're right-- unless... well, even the simplest theory requires too much brain power. Another poster mentioned it could be Michael and/or Walt which makes some serious sense in a lot of ways now that I think about it.
Anyways, last night's episode was one of THE best episodes of any TV show I've ever watched-- it may crack the my top 10 list.
And yeah-- I got a bit misty eyed when Penny and Desmond both began telling the other, "I love you. I'll find you. I'll find you. I promise!" over the phone.
My pal Alan is beginning to think that the Penny & Des relationship is the fulcrum to the shows entire plot-arc. Who knows.
One! Trippy! Episode!

That was EXACTLY what I started to suspect after last night's ep! Like they're the underpinning of the whole thing. I don't know why exactly, except the age-old anchor to any story--love. We humans are suckers for that and basically softies at heart... :loveya:

I believe Penelope and Desmond are going to be very central to the whole story. I've thought that ever since the end of season two, where Penny gets a call that they found something (Des had turned the failsafe on the hatch after Locke didn't input the numbers).
Both actors are terrific in the roles. SO believable as a couple. I cried last night at their phone call. It was like the episode where Desmond was in the hatch and was going to kill himself (I think it was season 2) and he found a letter from Penny. Had me in tears.

Michael has to be Ben's mole on the ship. He's really the only one who makes sense. I also think Michael opened the door for the guys last night in the Sick Bay.
I am looking all over the internet today to see what others think of this episode. It was so good, I can't get it out of my mind. Penny and Desmond are star-crossed lovers in time.

Brilliant theory. It fits together really well. That makes me wonder if it was Walt who sabotaged the communications room so that Michael couldn't communicate with Ben.

not to take away from your figuring that out by yourself but that has been pretty much what everyone thinks.
BTW- remember that Desmond left onceon the sailboat but returned-I think the magnet in his compass got screwed up from the magnetic force of the island.

45. Oh it was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good! |
|
So unbelievably good... the best of its kind, ever, hands-down.
Three things though:
1. Why didn't Desmond ask the other guy to tell Penny about Des during one of his jaunts to the past, like Des did while talking to the Faraday in the past? No guarantee it would have worked, but worth a shot... or maybe he had to talk to Penny himself... hm.
2. Is Faraday a baddie? That part about Hume being his constant if things went wrong... it seemed ominous. I don't want Des to die. :(
3. Why did Kate refer to Aaron as her son? I could have sworn last week she said "Eric" at the end, but I watched it muted this time and got the closed-captioned version.
Ok, now I'll go back and read the thread. :)

1. It took Desmond a visit to Faraday to figure out that he needed someone to talk to whom he cared both in the past and in the present. He had to meet Penny in person to get her phone number. And she had to trust him enough and to love him to give it to him. He was too confused to try to explain it to anyone and Penny would have never believed this coming from a stranger.
2. I don't think that Faraday is baddie, besides the fact that he is employed by the baddies. Describing Desmond as "constant" has to be related to physics where when every other parameters change, Desmond is the constant.
3. I think that presenting Aaron to the world as her son prevented him from being taken to a foster family, assuming that Clair is gone. And it may have something to do with what Clair was told back in Australia, about the importance of her raising him. Perhaps Kate was the best next thing.

I think we may have found out what happened to Daniel mental abilities. He may have zapped himself back and forth between times so often that he hurt his brain (the card memory thing)
I could have SWORN that Penny and Des had a meeting in a setting very much like the outside grazzy area at Oxford.

67. So does this mean that everyone has a constant? |
|
That they've all been there before? Locke seems to know about things before they happen. Does he understand this. In season one Sawyer says to Kate: I made this wish four years ago.
From lost's easteregg site, a theory
Locke knows it’s his destiny to go to the island. He sees Boone’s death before it happens. He knew Theresa fell up and down the stairs. He knew where the hatch is. He knew the Beechcraft crashed.
Widmore and Hanso and Dharma have found the island and know of its properties…and are working with the Valenzetti equation…the doomsday mathematical equivalent for the end of the world, and have figured out that through the island it is possible to travel back and forth, but have yet to find a way to change the actual outcome.
another question Jack..in the future…talking about his father being alive? Is he having flashes? When he tells Kate they have to go back…Does he mean back to the island? Or back in time?

105. They are one and the same. I don't think he lost the eight years... |
|
they were just subtly different in ways he wouldn't even recognize. Much like Daniel at the end discovering his note to himself in the notebook.
It's one of those mental time travel things that will leave you spinning unless you decide to jump off the wheel. So I'm sticking with my answer because it works for me.

I read about this in the spec thread on TWOP:
ADAM AND EVE ARE ACTUALLY JACK AND KATE!!!
In Season 3, when they go back, something happens where they must go into a different time rift and they wind up in the past on the Island, and become not only the Adam and Eve bodies found, but they are actually the genesis of the group we know as the Others!!!!!

Questions were answered, questions were given, the Desmond and Penny thing made me tear up, there were lots of mind fuck moments, the early Daniel was cool, Cusiak deserves an Emmy for last night, imo. We had the Black Rock diary, evil Widmore, and pretty much no Jack -- yay!
Any episode where I scream at Haruka to Wikipedia the Faraday Effect to figure out something that just happened is a good episode! (The irony is, I did quite poorly Physics -- too much math!)

Eli Stone is a good show but unfortunately the hour after LOST is a dead zone-everyone gets online, on the phone, or in a conversation about what they just watched. Eli Stone BTW was "sick Boy" in "Trainspotting". The accupuncturist is a fantastic TV character too. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PPCCcXarkc&NR=1
