computer question - someone is sending me pics with a .htm file extension

when i click on it to open it, an IE browser window opens, with nothing but red X.

i think he's sending it them from his phone.

is there something i'm missing here?

unsupported format.

Or, it's not really an .htm file he's sending, but with that extension, the browser automatically opens. Then, the browser can't read it.

Or, any one of a hundred other possibilities.
