What would be good thematic food for leap day
I want to do a cool supper with a leap day theme. All I can come up with is frog but we don't eat meat. Then I go to green things, but can't do that. Why? Because in the spring we change our red accents in our main living space to green and we call that "green day" and eat green foods.

So, all you creative geniuses, what should I make?

1. Not eating meat takes a lot of opportunities away, but you still have Hoppin' John

Of course, you'll want to replace the smoked hamhock with something else.

12. Nice.
I have a couple links of vegetarian chirizo sausage in my freezer that would probably work well in that recipe and would, kind of, fit the intent of the ham hock.

Sprinkle it with conclusions if you're looking for leaps.

10. Nice pun.
I'm the only beer drinker in the house, but I will force myself to have one for the purpose of the theme.

5. Kombu soup is a tradition Japanese wedding soup -
I'm thinking other meanings of "leap", which could include marriage - "taking the leap" - and using traditional wedding foods.

Perhaps a variety of Chinese, American, Japanese, European, etc., wedding foods.

7. Since you're a DUer, I thought this might work.....
From http://shindigzparty.wordpress.com/2007/11/23/jump-into-fun-with-a-leap-day-party/

"If you’re more the political type, set up a leap year election. Let the entire family cast their votes and predictions for the upcoming election. Decorate in red, white, and blue. Serve only red, white, and blue foods. Save your predictions and award prizes in November. This will result in the need for a second party in November to present prizes. Of course, one party that leads naturally to another is the best kind!"
