Does anyone else have a Creative Labs Zen MP3 player? I just got one and |
|
2 minutes ago I was trying to hook it up to my computer and was getting trouble with the hardware not being found.
So I unhooked it from one USB port and tried it on another and now the thing won't even turn on anymore. What did I do wrong?

1. Just plain Zen or Zen Stone? |

I've got a Zen Stone, that's the little tiny one without a screen. Haven't had any problems with it.

3. Did you download any software from the Creative Labs site? |
|
Their software seems to be fairly simple, but it helps deal with the mp3 player better than doing everything yourself.

4. I don't know what you did wrong, if anything |
|
My girlfriend had one of those a few years ago (unless yours is a few years old, I'd imagine it's been substantially changed), and it had stopped working, for probably the same reason (no reason). She couldn't get it to work, so I hooked it up to my computer and installed the software and it only got worse. The real treat was that I could never uninstall the software. Can I assume the warranty has expired?

5. It's 2 days old :^( I just installed the software for it and was trying again to |
|
get the computer to recognize it when I switched to a different USB port. At that point it did not automatically come on as before and when I disconnected it altogether it wouldn't turn on manually either.

7. see if you can take it back, or mail it in for a replacement/repair right away |
|
granted, I only have this one tale to tell about them, but it is very negative. The thing was only a few months old, but past the warranty, and it seems like your problem is very similar.

13. It seems ok now that he has rebooted the player. Well, at least it turns on again. |

They work nicely and I have no problems with them.
You could try to reboot your computer. Try removing/reinserting the battery. I had that scare once with the battery.
When you plug it in to the computer it may give you the option to open the organizer - if not then open with start/creative/organizer.

11. Turns out I turned it off when I should not have. Fortunately, there is a reboot button |
|
and it started up again. *phew* (Seriously, since the computer couldn't find it I figured it couldn't be in a transfer state, which apparently is a no-no time to turn it off.)

Did the software install?
When you plug in the USB, can you seek for the drive from your My Computer?

12. So it works on his computer okay? |
|
If it's not working on yours, I'd uninstall the software and reinstall it. If it works on one and not the other, then the problem is likely with "the other" and not the Zen unit.

Take it back and get an ipod!
Seriesly, there's what, five people left on the planet who don't have one? Which is nice because if you have issue with one, pretty much anybody can take care of it for you.
