Best beer(s) you've ever had.
Hard choices. But when I was in Canada years ago LaBatts. I think it's the higher alcohol content or something.

2. I don't know that it's the best I've ever had, but Birra Peroni is tasty.
Especially when having some tasty Italian cuisine.

4. LaBatt is my favorite every day beer
My other favorites are too many, and many are obscure.

McEwans Tartan & Scottish ales, Noche Buena, Harpoons, Anchor Steam...

Then there's the microbrews, St Augustine wheat, Chocolate Chili Porter...

5. Molson Golden and Carlsberg
Both are crisp, light and slightly sweet. Molson Golden gets the edge because it's just a tad sweeter.

6. Some lager in the north of England
On tap in the Black Horse pub in Whitby. The lager tasted fine, didn't seem too out of the ordinary, but after we had had our one pint each, my friend and I stood up to leave and BLAM--nearly fell flat on our faces.

Damn, that had a kick! :D

15. True, true
But we had made a pact before we entered the country for two weeks to find the best lager in England (limited to our travels, of course, as we didn't get to all regions), so all we drank was lager. (The absolute best turned out to be in the heart of London, at a pub near Picadilly.)

20. I'm not surprised
Lots of pubs around here (north west England) either won't have any lager, or just one for the sissy's - it's really more of a southern thing, so I'm in no way surprised that the best one was in London. That being said, it's not really English at all. I'm fine with lager, but can't drink the swill they have here. It's great in the Czech Republic and Germany though - and they have dark lager's, which are fantastic and strange.

7. Sometimes it is the SITUATION that makes a beer the "best" ....
Years ago I worked in a cemetery. We'd spent a really hot summer Saturday digging holes and setting up tomb stones. We finished at about 4pm. And we were exhaisted.

In trunk of my car, there was a cooler from the prior night. Much of the ice had become water, but there was still plenty of ice and the water was extremely cold. It hurt your hand to put it in the water.

And in that cold, cold, icy water, there were 4 tallboy cans of Old Milwaukee. I think the Old Milwaukee's were still there because folks had preferred the other beers the night before.

But that Old Milwaukee was one of the best beers I ever had.

14. that's one of my favourites as well
I've never had a bad beer from that brewery, but spotted cow is especially good. It's got that fantastic mysterious quality that few other beers have.... I think it must be a mix of some wheat malt in there, like with Bell's oberon.

11. Old Rasputin Imperial Stout, Brother Felonious Belgian Ale
Both from the best brewer in the country, North Coast Brewing in Fort Bragg CA. The rest of their beers are just as good (okay almost)and would rate but OR is like food and BF is the best belgian I have ever tasted. Imagine Fat Tire but with the flavors more distinct and dancing on your palate...

Edited on Sun Mar-02-08 03:50 PM by Drum
:9 Those would be my fave commercial ones, along with several Japanese brews. But I travel a lot, and happily can report that there are many local breweries turning out some amazingly-tasty beers and ales.

The best-tasting beer, of course, is the one most deserved and looked-forward-to. :)

ps: they sell many Russian and Eastern European beers here in my neighborhood. One of them, Baltika Export Lager, has 9% alcohol, and is a butt-kicker. I think it's like the absynthe of beers, kinda narcotic.

17. too many..... but here are a few:
Craftsman brewery (this is in Pasadena, I don't think they do bottles): orange grove ale, white sage
Dorrelei, from Strasbourg
Lindemann's Faro (on draft - bottle doesn't count)
Bell's Oberon (when it's good and fresh)
Monk's Cafe Flemish Sour Ale
Lexington brewing company's Kentucky Bourbon Ale

there are loads of others that I just can't name right now... lots of good bitters and belgian whites - too many for me to choose a single 'best'.

I try to get that every time I go visit my relatives in Michigan. Great Lakes Brewing Co. is another one from that region that makes some excellent beers.

35. I think both the best I've had
were at a little english-style pub that I discovered.

One was called 'Terrible', and the name was quite a bit of a misnomer. The other was a chocolate stout, but I don't remember the name.

I may be a bit biased though because my memories may be a big colored by who I was with. :)
