One thing that irks me. Two things actually. People that name their kid one thing so they can use a cutsey nickname. "Oh honey! Let's name him Theopolois so we can call him Theo." Arrrghhhh! Just name the kid one god damn name and be done with it. Also people that give nicknames to themselves. Reservations in hell, they've got 'em.

3. The best nicknames come from something dumb someone did |
|
Like when my friend and I were in Amsterdam and he was so high he pissed himself. Now I call him Peeps.

5. I'm sure that she loved that one. |

My fraternity nickname is "Mangina". The reason that is my nickname is because they couldn't think of anything dumb that I did. So it's totally random.

Oh, I know about nicknames!
My parents couldn't decide on a proper name for me, so I got the "formal" name and the nickname!
My husband and I did the same thing for our first daughter....:eyes:
By the time our second child arrived, we'd realized our mistake, and gave a name that could not be made into a nickname!
We were slow learners... :yoiks:
Oh, and by the way: Welcome to DU!
:hi:

9. There was a rule I read once in Maxim, it said that if someone tries to give themselves |
|
their own nickname, you are obliged to give them a nickname that brings up an embarrassing moment from their past.
So, the guy who wants to be called "Diezel" would instead be called "Sheet Stain."

10. I have a formal name and a nickname |
|
My name is Mary but that's not what I'm called. I'm so used to it I don't even think about it anymore. But my drivers license, passport, etc. all say Mary and that's how I sign my name. It's just not what people call me.

12. My name's only one syllable. |
|
Hard to make a nickname out of it.
And I generally don't let people try to add a Y at the end or anything. :P
