1. yes- two lines
The cost is great but no Internet means no phone so I have a cell phone in case of power outages.
Also, occasionally the Vonage modems will try to reset themselves in the middle of the night and the phones will ring at 3 and 4am.

4. I'm just answering the question.
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 12:30 AM by Rabrrrrrr
Which I can only assume is a question by the syntax - but, since the sentence ended with a period and not a question mark, it might only have been a statement, not a question.

Then the poster made a declarative statement - "getting sick of AT&T". I make the assumption that the subject is "I", but of course, we really don't know until the poster tells what he/she meant by "getting sick of AT&T". Question? Statement? I don't know.

And then offered something that looks like a question, except that it ends in a period, and thus it's merely a statement. Unfortunately, it ends up being a statement with no informational value.

The poster didn't ask if *I* had Vonage, he/she merely asked if anyone has Vonage.

I offered a factual answer - Yes. Someone has Vonage. In fact, more than likely, many people have Vonage, which I know because I know at least 2 people who have it.

6. Semantics are goddamned important, and I'm sick and tired of assholes
who don't think that grammar, syntax, or other proper forms of usage are "relevant" or "important".

Fuck them.

If it means they suffer at the hands of unhelpful answers, then fuck 'em.

I'm goddamned sick and tired of people who think that language is something they can just fuck with, and/or say "To fuck with it".

If the government were up to me, every one of these subliterate pieces of shit would be paying some kind of heinously awful tax for refusing to learn their native language.

14. Thanks! It's embarrassingly nasty, though.
I was in a very pissy mood late last night when I wrote that.

Not that the sentiments aren't appropriate, but wow - I could have been a little more tactful.

One reason not to post while pissed off at someone else.

 :yourock:

7. Vonage has had some problems with...
moving your phone number from the phone co. And you gots no phone if the power or cable goes down. Around here, that's a problem since the power or cable go out a lot more often than the phone does.

Other than that, every one I know who has it loves it.

Around here, though, no one has it. Cablevision has that deal with phone, cable, and hispeed internet for a hundred bucks so there's no need for Vonage. Same problems with cable or power going out, though.

8. If you have a cell phone, you do have access to your calls
on a Vonage line. There's a place in the settings where you can designate another number for calls to be routed to in case of power/cable outages.

9. Yes, and other than the needing internet to work part it's great.
Although I'm thinking about trying Skype to see if I like it better.

11. My business partner uses it and has been pretty happy
with it. I'm using MagicJack, which works over Internet, but uses their internal network, so there's no monthly phone bill. Paid $40 for the device, and will pay $20/year for the license to use it for outgoing and incoming calls all over the US and Canada - that's it, no other billing, except for International calling if you choose to use it. I maintain a bare-bones landline because of the security system in my home, but use the MagicJack for my business line. MagicJack.com will get you more info.

12. I was going to switch to them, but
the last time I checked, they no longer offered a wireless router.

I will probably go with the Comcast $100 deal someone mentioned downthread.

16. vonage has been my sole phone service since 2004....
Edited on Thu Mar-06-08 10:47 AM by mike_c
Works great and you can't beat the cost. The ONLY drawback IMO is that the phone goes down when the internet feed goes down. That doesn't happen often, but on those rare occasions the first thing you want to do is call the cable company. That's a really minor gripe. I've been completely satisfied with Vonage service.
