I don't usually post this kind of stuff, but... |

I'm listening to the new Stephen Malkmus & The Jicks release, "Real Emotional Trash." Holy shit, it's incredible! I've got a friend who insists nothing good has been released since the late seventies, and has often challenged me to put together a disk of what I think holds up to "the classics." I've got some favorites through the years, but this brand new Malkmus disk is killer! I wasn't into Pavement, so I don't know how it compares, but I'll be sure to check out some of his older stuff now, too (beyond the few odd cuts I have on my iPod).
This isn't slick production office background music, it's written and performed to be listened to. Maybe not your cup of tea if you're a big Kelly Clarkson or Beyonce fan, but well worth a listen if you like good solid guitar jams wrapping around incredibly poetic lyrics.
And now, the balcony is closed.

2. I don't know pavement either, but this disk sound like a cross between... |

Allman Brothers, Phish, Cake, Dead...plus your favorite bar band...all with really, really great lyrics. Check it out on iTunes or Amazon (iTunes offer one additional track for the same price). I just totally dig this disk. Excellent stuff.
