You know, I'm really starting to like Veggie Tales... |
|
Flame me if ya want, but my daughter LOVES 'em. I originally was kinda hesitant about her watch them since about the only thing I'd heard was that they were Christian values-based, and I was concerned that they'd be too preachy or proselytizing in nature.
What I'm finding instead is that VT's are good stories for kids, good productions (the VT guys apparently did some of the first computer-generated movies ever made, preceding Pixar by a couple of years), and a zany sense of humour compatible with my own (which is quite a bit more twisted. Not at all what you'd expect from a production company which claims to want to mix "Saturday Morning fun with Sunday morning values." The interviews with the two founders of VT are pretty interesting too; they present themselves more as artists and less as missionaries, and they seem to have a heckuva lot of fun.
Can somebody tell me something bad about these guys and satisfy my inner cynic? I honestly can't find anything, and I'm not particularly looking.

1. I love the Veggie Tales! |
|
I am a Christian, but I can't stand the evangelical-charismatic-Pentacostal-spirit-filled versions. Still, I love the Veggie Tales, 'cause they're fun, and funny, and the Christian message is not too overt.

5. Lessee...I married into the Catholic faith.. |
|
(i.e. my wife and daughter are, I'm not.) I have not converted due to certain personal/spiritual reservations, but its never out of the question. I wouldn't make a very good agnostic or atheist since I've had too much happen to me in 40-odd years to doubt the existence of some kind of God.
Hope that doesn't make too much difference one way or t'other...if you want, I can edit this later so you can give me a proper flaming.

4. I LOVE Veggie Tales!!!! |
|
I got hooked on them when I was a part time nanny for two kids of a coworker of mine. The kids loved them, and I watched with them. I LOVE Larry's Silly Songs (especially "I Love My Lips" and the song about the Sebu... achoo moo moo achoo moo moo achoo moo moo!LOL! Oh, and the Christmas song about cookies is funny too)
Larry the Cucumber is HILARIOUS!
One night I was talking to a friend who was a DJ on the local modern rock station (former "the Whipping Boy" of the Buzz in Houston)... we were at a club, and he was doing a live remote. For some odd reason, they decided to do "Veggie Night" and offer free stuff to anyone who arrived with some sort of vegetable. I didn't about it know until I got there, but several ladies showed up with cucumbers (go figure??!). So, my friend and I started talking about Larry the cucumber, and Whip ended up putting us on the air singing the Veggie Tales theme song!
If You like to talk to tomatoes If a squash can make you smile If you like to waltz with potatoes Up and down the produce aisle...
Have WE got a song for YOU!!!!
(no, I didn't even have to look those lyrics up online!LOL)
I wonder if Larry has a fan club??? :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya: :loveya:

6. I think they're great! |

About the only truly entertaining Christian show that isn't heavy-handed and in bizarre-land.
Very creative, well-written, wacky, solid theologically, and all around fun for kids AND adults.
It's like a Christian Rocky & Bullwinkle, but with a moral point.

I love the Veggie Tales!
I love the way they bounce around. And the interplay between Bob and Larry is hilarious.
Theirs are some of the only shows I look forward to watching with my kids.
