I tried to put Frontline on my cat but I am not sure I got it where it was supposed to go |
|
Trying to stop a flea problem before it gets worse. But he would not stand still and he is a little big for me to restrain. So it ended up mostly in the hair near his neck but I don't think I got it all down to the skin. Will it still work or will I need to get another one for next month?
Now, he is not an outdoor cat normally but he is an escape artist that makes his own cat door through the screen but in a month or so I will have the a/c on full time so there will be less chance he will escape. I have never needed to treat him for fleas all the time, just occasionally when he manages to pick them up on his forays outdoors. It never gets cold enough to kill them.

You should probably do repeated doses throughout the season, it's easier to keep fleas away than to get them gone once they're established (especially if they start laying eggs in your house.) I know the stuff is expensive- I get my cats' flea stuff (Advantage) for pretty cheap on ebay, which is a lifesaver with three of them to dose.

He does manage to get out sometimes when I open the door a crack. He even can open it himself if it is not shut all the way.

4. Should be fine. If you have a flea "problem" I recomment the big spray bottle. |
|
The Frontline spray is awesome if you have an outbreak of sorts.

Try to get it between their shoulder blades, as they can't reach there with their tongues.

8. I don't think he can actually reach this area where it ended up |
|
He was just too wiggly for me to get it down to the skin.

6. If it was so dangerous that not getting it perfectly right resulted in dead cats |
|
word of mouth would have killed off the brand in no time flat.

but you might also want to ask your vet about capstar. It's a pill that kills the infestation in about 30 minutes. It doesn't last forever but the combo of capstar and frontline works absolute wonders.

9. It isn't really an infestation |
|
I saw one flea (but probably there are more since I have had some unexplained insect bites myself). I just want to nip it in the bus.

10. I think the only reason for the recommended spot is so he can't lick it |
|
As long as he's not foaming at the mouth, and as long as it didn't drip off, I think it'll be fine.
However, it's still a monthly treatment (at least, the Advantage stuff we use is).

12. i really wish they would invent a better frontline delivery system... |
|
a pill or something more concentrated. i have one dog that weighs 85lbs. with really thick fur.
by the time i am through squeezing that large tube on him it is mostly on his fur. that can't be right.
hell, give me a needle and i'll shoot him...

14. I was just wishing that the flea pill I use on one of my cats (capstar) came any other way |
|
Of course the difficulty in giving cats pills is notorious. Luckily she'll eat one up in canned food, the other two manage to spit them out no matter what, so since she's the only one with skin drama she gets Advantage and Capstar and they just get Advantage.

in a cat shelter... its all good as long as they don't lick all off immediately. plus, chances are good you managed to inoculate yourself against fleas as well, so its win win.
