Other than those two.
It's a mystery.
I bet it was some tremendous compliment though.

5. I am probably the only one in the world that thought that movie was way over rated. |
|
I watched the whole thing but I seriously was not impressed.

It was almost painful to watch.

Bill Murray has been off his game the last few years. Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou was almost as bad.

13. overrated compared to what? |
|
It's certainly one of the best films I've ever seen. I especially like that it's directed by someone from my generation, and not just marketed towards people my age - and, sweet lord, look what happened: she made a movie that profoundly resonates with others in her age group. yowzers.
I guess it's no "metropolis" or "vertigo", but it is probably the best movie from the last ten, if not twenty, years.

14. I wasn't impressed, either |
|
There could have been an interesting movie about Tokyo, which is a fascinating city, full of some very strange and delightful foreign residents.
The two characters in the movie simply weren't interesting as people, and their view of Tokyo was of shallow tourists who hardly venture out of their fancy hotel.
By the way, jet lag GOING to Tokyo isn't half bad. It's COMING BACK from Tokyo that's the killer.

12. I liked the film, and thought most of the kudos were earned. |
|
When I watched the film, I understood the dream-like sense of disconnection both characters were feeling during their stay in Tokyo. I felt similar when I visited London for the first time. I was alone in a huge city of total strangers. I at least understood what they were going through.
Now if only I'd had Scarlett Johanssen to assuage my loneliness... :loveya:

That cracked me up. (BTW, I'm glad that there are more than a few DUers who have a similar opinion to mine regarding Lost in Translation; makes me feel like less of an "uncultured' slob. haha)

I absolutely hated it - and I'm pretty tolerant of movies. I'd heard such great things about it and the whole time I watched it I kept wondering "when does it get good?". Then it ended.

It had an "art film" quality that I found really appealing, living reliving any of the many times of my life when a chance encounter/conversation with a stranger made me feel a bit less out of my element. :)

to be ROMANTIC soul mates.
I also like to think he used his connections to get her a job as a script reader or something, because we allknow she was going to leave Giovanni Ribisi sooner or later.

And they both seemed intent on doing "the right thing" by their spouses, 'cept for Bill Muray's fling with the singer.
