I was in the dark last night due to storm-related power outages |
|
There was a power outage lasting 13 hours from 6 last night to about 45 minutes ago. A 60-70 MPH wind gust blew my front door open, and when I went up to close the door, the lights went out. I was left in the dark and the cold the entire night.
I turned on my battery-operated radio and discovered the cause: powerful winds, which blew in right after days of soaking rain, knocked down trees and power lines, causing tens of thousands to lose their power, including my entire block. My phone was out--it was cordless and I couldn't use it. Thank God my roomie had some emergency candles so we could see where we were going. She had to spend the night with a friend because she's too sick to handle the cold.
The power came back on at 8:47 EDT, and with it, the heat. The last time I was caught in a prolonged power outage was during the Blackout of 1977--when I was still living in New York!

1. We were out from about 8pm - 2 am. You'd think 5 hours would be tolerable. |

My redneck neighbor got out his loud generator and kept me up all night. Wuss!
