Text size in Windows Vista?
Okay, no matter how large we make the default text in Windows Vista, the manually entered text in form fields is always small to the point of near-illegibility. The help file is worthless ("enlarge the font using the Personalize function"), and the net effect is hugely annoying.

Has anyone else encountered this? How the hell do I fix it?

1. Do this.
Go to the list of topics in the lounge. Right above the list on the left hand side is a text link that says large font size. Click it.

2. Clever!
However, unless DU has infiltrated the display for Google and for MS Excel, that's not the problem.

Any other ideas?

4. Do this.
Go to the control panel in Vista. Go to personalization and in the upper left corner there is an option "Adjust font size". You can increase the font size up to 200% normal size.

You could also lower your resolution in display properties. If it is set at 1600 x 1200 or higher it is going to display tiny fonts.

5. A good thought, but...

That blows up all of the fonts, rather than just the ones that are illegibly small. I wind up with something that

LOOKS LIKEthis,

which is just a continuation of the problem.

I've run at least seven different versions of Windows over the years, and this is the only time I've encountered this problem.

9. Do this.
Ask at this forum, plenty of helpful experts who KNOW what they are talking about.

Vista isn't as bad as many claim. I am glad we had one "get a Mac" post in your thread- it wouldn't be D.U. without one!

10. I'd have done it,
but when you said "Vista isn't as bad...", I felt I had to be respectful of everyone.  :grouphug:

15. I really haven't had any problems with Vista yet.
Two different machines one running home premium & one running 64 bit ultimate. I appreciate the Mac users loyalty but I am a frequent upgrader & the P.C. is a better platform for that. I have never tried upgrading a mac but I suspect it would cost me much more.

16. So far, this is the only problem I've had
And I've done some Googling (difficult, when the font in the dialog box is about 3 points), and the best answer I've found it "Hmm. Must be something wrong with your computer."

Something about my suspicious nature causes me to doubt that answer. The problem isn't consistent from site to site, because the entry points for DU's subject fields show up just fine. But Google, Wiki, and a few others default the dialog boxes to ultra-tiny typeface.

6. Here's how I resolved that issue...
Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

12. What a great idea!
Having trouble with text size? Spend a couple thousand dollars on a new computer, back up all your stuff and spend hours to transfer it all over to the new computer. That'll fix your problem!
