Friggen gray hair
Here I am 38 years old and starting to have to pluck more and more gray hairs. This morning I pulled out 5..The most ever in one session! Ugh. I found my first gray hair at the age of 30. But this is depressing. I feel too young to be going gray! Any other people my age going gray?x(

2. you are probably right
However, having dark brown hair makes the gray so damn visible I can't stand it..I wish I was blond like my sister..you would never notice a few gray hairs on her. Guess I need to start thinking about dyeing my hair..*sigh*.

4. I tried dying my salt and pepper hair blond, hoping for highlights.
I got auburn-but-mostly-red hair. Dark brown hair needs something drastic to make it blond.

But I got lucky, I just started finding them in the last 8 months. But I am going to let it go gray.

7. That's a myth, dearheart...
Myth #4: If you pluck out one gray hair, two or three will sprout in its place.
While this isn't true, plucking out those gray strands is a bad habit. You can damage the roots, causing infection or leaving a scar.

http://www.buzzle.com/editorials/12-23-2004-63365.asp

A white/gray hair means that hair follicle no longer has pigmentation, so when it regrows it will still be white/gray.
Plucking one of those hairs does not affect the other hair follicles around it.

I'm not going gray - just bald! My hair is thinning, so I'd take gray hair over that any day.

Donald Rumsfeld is giving the President his daily briefing. He concludes by saying: "Yesterday, three Brazilian soldiers were killed."

"OH NO!" the President exclaims. "That's terrible!"

His staff sits stunned at this display of emotion, nervously watching as the President sits, head in hands.

Finally, the President looks up and asks, "How many is a brazillion?"

and only right in the front where EVERYONE can see it..not a single gray YET in the back, and I am closer to 50 than I am 40.

I refuse to capitulate, as of yet, to it. My hair is a beautiful dark brown with a shank of light caramel highlight right up front. One day, I am sure, I will tire of the battle.

OH another edit - wait until you get them in your eyebrows and on your neck...GREAT fun.

on edit - spelling, my hands do not seem to want to work correctly today.

You have to look close to see mine but they're there. I'm not dying my hair from now on though, I don't want to end up with the grey-roots situation my mom has, she has to dye her hair forever now.
My husband is a few months younger than me and he's totally grey! He started going grey in his 20's and now he's 37 and his grey hair's starting to turn white :o He says I did it to him but that's just a joke, kinda.

:) I'm 44 and found my first gray hair when I was 23. My mother went gray by the time she was 40 and covered it well. My hairdresser tells me I'm about 60% gray, but I keep it colored. I love the color and am not ready for gray either. :)

23. Started coloring my hair in my late 30s
Edited on Mon Mar-10-08 10:47 AM by supernova
I had been very blonde as a child, but my hair turned a kind of mousy brown as I got older. Didn't like it at all, just made me invisible.

edit: I too was weird about coloring my hair at first. I didn't want to be one of those women who in 10 years' time, looked like she had a thatch of broomstraw on her head from over coloring. I started out just doing highlights in the summer, that hid the few grey hairs I had here and there for several years and looked pretty good. So, consider starting with that.

Now, I do color my hair blonde because the top of my head is almost all grey and I look a lot better without the grey/brown effect.

When I am old, I want Emmylou Harris's long white hair. :-)

24. I got my first gray hair at 13
I'm not joking. I remember someone in the schoolyard pointing out my gray hair to me. It gradually came in over the next few years. By college, it was quite noticable. I started to cover my gray when I was around 25 by streaking it with my natural color. By 30, I was so gray I had to use all-over color.
Like the others, I don't suggest that you pluck your gray. Try streaking it with your natural color or a shade lighter.

26. I know I'm supposed to hate my gray hairs.

But I just can't. And not only do I not hate them, I actually think they're cool.

All my life I've had plain, one color hair in a simple cut. I'm just not one of those girls who was ever interested in putting a lot of time and effort and money into changing up my hair style and color. As long at my hair was healthy and easy to manage, I was happy.

But now it's like, Wow! My hair is doing something funky all on its own! How cool is that?!?

I had more gray hair when my son was a newborn, but those have gone away now. I also henna my hair every 3-4 months, and I think that masks them.

GRAVITY is my biggest concern right now. All my cheeks be saggin. x(

So far there's a streak in the front and along my right temple, but my hair is just the right color for the gray to be mostly unnoticeable unless the light hits it a certain way. I grew my beard out for the first time in 4 years this year, though, and there's quite a bit more gray than there used to be. I'll be 40 this year, though, and my parents had a lot more gray hair at my age than I do.

Edited to add that a female friend of mine who digs gray hair keeps telling me I should call it "chrome" instead. :P
