Poll question: For those who smoke(d) pot, a question....
What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you because of it? I'm curious about the smokers:problems ratio and distribution. :smoke:

I apologize if these are out of the order that you would have ranked them, this is somewhat arbitrary.

2. Had a lot of coughing problems
also a few times I'd get paranoid (especially if I was at someone's house who was dealing I'd get to thinking we were gonna get busted.

Mostly the cough though bothered me, and the tired feeling

good stuff didn't do the tired feeling though

I think my performance was so good (my supervisor apparently cried when they told her I was to be fired) and some good tears on my part helped save me....

9. People thought I was a stoner.
Not just someone who smoked once in a while, but a total stoner, along with all the high school baggage that goes along with such a label.

I swore off it in 10th grade and haven't toked since.

56. People think that about me.
I usually smoke a few times a month, but between my messing around and the people I hang out with, some kids got the impression I was a stoned 24/7 kind of guy. I've just accepted it. Most of the people who think that aren't the kind of people I like to chill with anyway, so it's not a big deal for me. Besides, having people think I was a big-time stoner made me some knew friends and some connections :)

13. It aggravated my Bipolar Disorder, and led to an episode
I also have a former stepbrother who had major psychotic issues triggered by his excessive marijuana use. I'm not saying that smoking pot caused it, but it aggrivated an already-existing disposition toward psychotic behavior. It started out as self-medicating, but eventually the excessive pot use only made the condition worse. Kind of like how some alcoholics self-medicate, but in the end only cause more harm to themselves by drinking.

Most people see marijuana as being "harmless", but no drug is ever "harmless". Drugs can affect people in different ways, and everybody is affected differently. A joint can be relatively harmless to one person, but can cause serious problems for somebody else.

22. Started having such severe physical reactions that I had to quit
Very rapid heartbeats, tight chest etc .. felt like a heart attack at its worst. To this day no medical professional has ever been able to tell me whether these episodes ( which became more and more frequent, leading to finally quitting) were severe anxiety reactions, or an actual physiological allergic reaction, or a combination of the two, or something else... All I know is these episodes were pretty damn scary, and I probably will never know what they really were. By the way, I'd been a pretty much daily stoner for many years before this stuff started, so probably just my body telling me " enough". I also fully support legalization; I know many, many stoners who have wonderful, successful lives while continuing to toke up regularly.

24. Worst panic attacks EVarrr
I've never had any that were close to the ones I got a couple times after smoking dope. They usually last a few seconds to maybe a minute, but I couldn't tell you how long the reefer-inspired attacks lasted because I had zero concept of reality.

I do know in one I wandered around the perimeter of my high school campus, often holding on to a chain-link fence just to feel something real. If I had to guess, I'd say it lasted at least half an hour, and was extremely intense.

30. Depends on my frame of mind.......
If I'm really anxious or preoccupied about something (work, deadlines etc...) it generally exacerbates my anxiety. Sometimes it can hit me really hard and I find myself wanting to withdraw and go play guitar by myself or something of the like. It can also play hell with my confidence which I'm sure goes hand-in-hand w/ the anxiety.

However, if my frame of mind is good, if I'm hanging w/ some really open and social folks, or if I'm kicking around in the woods, a toke is just the ticket. In those situations, I find weed generally makes me more gregarious and a cut-up.

I think weed is like any other chemical you take than can alter your perceptions: the general state of your psyche will determine what you get out of it. For me, it can be a boon or a bane.

Now, what was your question again? :smoke:

I was involved in a shooting over a weed deal set up by my step son. (5 years ago this week) Worst thing that has ever happened to me. The actual incident, the trial, the being sued for two million dollars, my divorce, losing everything I owned, depression etc.

But really that was more due to the fact that pot is illegal, and therefore a huge profit maker, than the actual use of the herb.

34. I had an ex who started smoking seriously
and in her case at first it was a good thing, she'd always been a little too repressed for her own good and it let her open up and start being herself. Then she started smoking TOO much, and she ended up staying with an emotionally abuse boyfriend (not me! the guy after me.) for far longer than she should have, and because she spent all of her money on pot rather than necessities, she lost a lot of weight. And she was already skinny to begin with. She ended up around 90 pounds... and she's 5'6.

She hasn't smoked in a few years, and she's healthy and much better off right now.

I've always been a fan of legalizing it... but just like alcohol, you can let it dictate your life. She got far too mellowed out and complacent and just let shit like that happen. And I know her well enough to know that if she hadn't been smoking all the time, she wouldn't have put up with any of it.

35. I smoked some strong stuff with three glasses of wine once
I am not a big smoker to say the least. Maybe a couple dozen times in my entire life, but I was used to cheap junk. Once, after three glasses of red wine (which can hit me hard), I had three big tokes of some high quality stuff. I sat in a chair for a couple of hours(?) in a zone and then got up. When I did, I think I remember puking. I felt like such a dumbass, I haven't smoked since that day four years ago. I would again though. On occasion. Without the red wine. In all honesty, I think sex is kind of fun slightly stoned. Praise Jesus! :D

42. I got fired after entering rehab to save my $3.35hr. job....
Edited on Wed Mar-12-08 07:51 AM by jus_the_facts
....I'd gone into rehab in my late teens...my family doctor was the chief of staff at the rehab portion of the hospital I was later employed by....never had been written up or reprimanded by my supervisors but was obviously being observed and/or reported on because after calling in one time after telling a co-worker I was planning on going out the night before...I was ordered into rehab again to save my job...

I agreed to go back into rehab to save my job as unit secretary in ICU...where I'd been literally praised by my immediate supervisor for doing so well...after learning I didn't have any insurance for them to bilk...which I had to wait a year to get a policy as this hospital only signed employees once a year and it didn't kick in for another month...he asked that I take tests to determine if I'd been smoking again because he had reason to suspect I'd not been following my outpatient treatment....come to find out he ordered the test in a higher unit of measure than all the previous tests to make it LOOK like I'd smoked since my last test...I was fired immediately.

I went immediately to file for unemployment and had to get an attorney to threaten the hospital to give me access to my medical records so I could prove my case....the biggest regret of my life is not suing them.

I now refuse to submit my bodily fluids for employment.

51. GG passed me this joint before we went on stage.
I was fine with one hit, but he absolutely INSISTED I take another. HE KNEW it was one-hit-no-shit and I, being young and naive, felt sort of honored at his willingness to share and sort of pressured by the big star. We were playing a ballad that he knew I preferred not become a dirge. I counted off and he HALVED THE TEMPO. Lots of deep breathing for me and then it HIT! I checked him hunched over the piano GIGGLING, eyeing me mischieviously knowing I was more stoned than I ever wanted to be in front of an audience. It was a struggle, but no crash and burn. Afterwards, in the dressing room I glared at him. He said innocently, "That was good stuff, huh?" We both collapsed on the sofa laughing our asses off!

54. Worst thing: Skiing
Me & some friends were out one day. We'd ski down the slope, then smoke up on the lift back to the top. On the third or fourth time down I wiped out and twisted my ankle. My friends didn't want to stop just for me, so I went into the lodge and spent two more hours smoking and drinking beer ... and smoking more ... and drinking more beer.

After that I was feeling REALLY good, so I strapped on my boots and went out again. Very. Bad. Idea.

The next day my ankle was the size of a basketball and I couldn't walk for a week.

Bad. 'Course back then it probably was dusted.

I don't smoke pot anymore--don't need or want it, but more and more I find myself a marijuana advocate for others, especially those with certain health conditions.

Of course if all someone does is sit on the couch, play video games or watch movies and eat red-hot Cheeto's and mayonnaise sandwiches, they might want to re-think a thing or two about using. Those types are the exceptions though.
