Do you have any allergies? |
|
I'm allergic to household dust and pollen.
Oh, and I'm allergic to my cat Star, for some reason. But a couple of allergy tabs and I'm fine.
How about you?

Some of the usual suspects. My allergies have really been acting up lately due to the weather change.

I'm very thankful for that, having married an allergy sufferer and seen the discomfort she has to endure.

7. Cedar - me hates it, it's vile and not precious |
|
If you live in Austin, TX for more than 5 years you too will be allergic to Cedar. It's the one major strike against Austin. Damn it is so important to be able to breath. I avoid repukes too though just to be on the safe side.
I don't know if this sale is still going on, but I recently bought 180 tablets of AllerClear at Costco for $18.00. That's 10 cents a tablet. All you Claritan using folks run to your nearest Costco and get you some.
AllerClear is the Kirkland brand or generic substitute for Claritan that Costco sells. It has the 10mg of Loratadine which is the active ingredient in Claritan. It's also the non drowsy 24 hour kind. Sweet!!!

but I also have a mild cat allergy (and three long-haired strictly indoor cats). I'm allergic to most kinds of smoke, especially cigarettes. Molds. The usual. Dust mites are the worst, though. I can always tell when it's time to clean our furnace filters.

My mother however is allergic to all raw fruits and veggies, in addition to furry animals. Has to cook everything, or let it get over ripe, nearly rotten. Weirdest allergy ever.

I was on the Atkins diet before Atkins was cool. Wheat, being an American staple, is absolutely everywhere and nigh impossible to get away from. All the same I thank Goodness I am not allergic to peanuts.

I get asthmatic symptoms from cats. Been so since I was a small child.
If I go to a house with cats, I need a full Primatene inhaler to keep my lung capacity from tenthing itself.
When I return home I have to COMPLETELY change my clothes and take a shower to get all the allergens away from myself.
Cat dander is very fine and sticky and doesn't go away from simply removing yourself from that environment.
By contrast, dog dander is easily shaken off. Plus, cat allergies are three times more prevalent than dog allergies in the population. Very often, people who THINK they are allergic to dogs are really just allergic to cat dander that has stuck to a dogs coat.
When I first got my dog, he set off my allergies for an entire week until all the cat dander had been eliminated from his coat (he lived in a house with cats before he came to me).

Dust and pollen are easily taken care of with Claritin--but I will, without fail, throw up violently if I'm around smoke (particularly cigarrete smoke). :puke:

I sufferd from a chronic sinus infection for a year because my doctor dismissed it as allergies. Finally, I demanded an allergy test, and I wasn't allergic to anything.

Pollens, molds, grasses, cats, cockroaches (?!), plus melons and bananas. The allergist has the idea that the problems I've been having the past few months are because of my cat, but I'm not buying it -- I grew up with cats in the house and have had the same cat for four years, and I've been around cats that I WAS allergic to -- totally different response than what I've been having lately. (Plus the reaction to the cat antigen was less dramatic than the antigens for things like pollen that I'm very allergic to...even if they did score it the same.) I'm betting that my problem is mold; our landlord had a lot of work done to our house last summer, which probably produced more places for it to grow. Also, we acquired a LOT of house plants right before I started having problems...hmmmm!
