Poll question: Will Ferrell
Do you think he's funny? How about his movies? I was just dropping a deuce, and suddenly the craptastic crapathon that is "Talladega Nights" popped into my mind.

So, have at it. You know my answer.

3. I'll go for that
He's okay as a role in a movie for someone else, Zoolander and Austin Powers 1 and 2 come to mind, but he can't carry a movie to save his life. Well, he's still alive so apparently he can, but I'm not changing my opinion on that inconvenient fact.

7. That's what i think...if he had a smaller role in Blades of Glory,
it would have been much better...actually the funniest part of the movie were the actual skating...you could ALMOST see some skater releasing a dove at the end of his routine, I mean "real" figure skating is so over the top as it is. Amy Poehler was a hoot.

consider what you laugh at here? this is not exactly full of jokes from NPR's book hour.

which is right on line with my Will Ferrell laugh metrics.

edit to change ratio to metrics, because it sounded smarter

10. Talladega nights was hilarious
Anchorman not so much. But the skewering of NASCAR/racing culture, along with self-help "facing one's fears", homophobia, materialism was quite smart. It was kind of like The Jerk in terms of satirizing pop culture.

and there wasn't much amusement. The only part of Anchorman that I lol'd at was the dog bridge scene.

When he's not.... well...he's not.

I will always be grateful to him for Elf, his Bush impression, and his appearance on Conan in the Leprechaun bit.

Maybe I'll download it and watch as hopefully amusing fodder after I watch "Downfall"

49. I've seen Elf about a dozen times.
I have kids though, who are responsible for a lot of those viewings.

But I still like it every time.

Like Robin Williams, I think Will F. does best when he's actually playing a part instead of just hamming it up.

25. Here is the deal with Will Ferrell: he was brilliant on SNL. *Too brilliant*
All of the brilliant stars of SNL proceed to cash in their popularity by making 1.5 hour skits, otherwise known as motion pictures. These borefests last about 1 hour longer than they should, or about a double SNL skit.

I stopped seeing them years ago. Life is too short.

Edited on Thu Mar-13-08 08:48 PM by UTUSN
I haven't seen his movies except the Anchorman one, and it had some LOL moments----like, the West Side Story take-off with the rival anchor-people from the different outlets---PBS, the Spanish-language station, etc.

He did the absolute best "Shrub," but cut out of SNL instead of pushing it.

36. Yeah, but that was a Ben Stiller movie
I've acknowledged he was decent in that, and the Austin Powers movies, but he can't carry a movie on his own. Just can't. There will always be the masses who like Adam Sandler, I don't 'get' them, and don't pretend that I do. Shit, now I want to start an Adam Sandler poll, but he doesn't deserve his own thread. Fuck Adam Sandler.

40. The only movie I've seen him in is Talladega Nights and
I didn't WANT to think it was funny. I didn't want to laugh or like it.

But I did. And I now own it and have made other people watch it. That is the funniest movie I think I have ever seen.

However, I don't really want to see any of his other movies. They haven't sparked my interest, even though Talladega Nights makes me cry with laughter every time I watch it. Those public service announcements. The whole "prune candy" thing. Oh it kills me

Hits:

Celebrity Jeopardy
Most of SNL
Anchorman

Old School
Zoolander

Misses:

Night At The Roxbury
Elf
Bewitched

I'm indifferent on Semi-Pro and Stranger Than Fiction.
