Question for homeowners or siding installers...
How much do you think it might cost to install vinyl siding on a small (1000 sq ft) boxy ranch? Just looking for a ballpark price because I have no concept of what something like that would go for. I know I need to get estimates but before I do I want to brace myself a bit.

1. you need to find out the cost of the materials first, one box of vinyl siding will
cover 100sf. i would price out siding first to get some idea and then contact 2 different contractors and get a bids.

2. That's one way to approach it but I don't want to do any of this job myself, including...
including pricing materials. For once I want 'the guy' to come and do the job and I'll just write the check. Every time lately I've tried to simply hire a guy to do a job for me I've wound up doing leg work or part of the job myself.

3. the reason i suggest you look at prices for the siding is to make you aren't
getting screwed over. Contractors do get a discount, usually 15% sometimes 20 depending on who they buy from. the other thing is, are they going over existing siding, will they have to rip and remove anything?

9. Where are you getting YOUR vinyl siding?
Your basic vinyl siding--no frilly shit, just the vinyl used on most homes--comes in a 200sf box.

Materials: figure $60 for each 100sf of either siding or soffit, around $80 for a roll of trim coil for the fascia, $15 per corner, $15 to trim out one window or door, and $4 for a 12-foot starter strip. Add in $35 for a bundle of fanfold insulation for each box of siding you buy, five pounds of roofing nails per box...run those numbers and you'll know the materials cost.

4. 3,000 at least
I had to replace siding on 1 wall last year and it cost 1500. But I had vertical siding so it might be cheaper for you.

6. When you do get price estimates
get an estimate on the Hardiplank fiber cement siding, too. We did ours as a DIY with their lap siding and found that the price wasn't very much more at all and the product is far superior to vinyl in every way. It could also get you a discount on your homeowner insurance. Gotta check with your agent on that.

Good luck! :hi:

8. We just love ours!
I think that was the best choice. It looks really great and it'll last for a really long time.
