listening to that Silver Beatles auditions is easy to hear why they were rejected. And the Trems did have a pretty good career..

And I can understand why they got Ringo in place of Pete Best as well. The session was very 'vanilla'; bland. Even when they did their first audition for George Martin, some of the recording engineers have stated they weren't all that impressed by the Beatles either.
But the real reason was probably geographic. The Beatles were based in Liverpool, 200 miles away. The Tremoloes were about 10 miles away from London.
