I got 445 out of 474. As a geophreak, I consider that unacceptable. :(

45. Dunno... but did you catch this?
Houghton Mifflin's American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language, 4th edition describes the term's etymology as stemming from an "alteration of obsolete malkin, lower-class woman, mop, from Middle English;

To clarify:

mal·kin /ˈmɔkɪn, ˈmɔl-, ˈmæl-/
–noun British Dialect.
1. an untidy woman; slattern.
2. a scarecrow, ragged puppet, or grotesque effigy.
3. a mop, esp. one made from a bundle of rags and used to clean out a baker's oven.
4. a cat.
5. a hare.

Also, mawkin.

There's no dot on the map for Wilmington. x(

That's assuming, though, that they mean the one in Delaware.

29. k, I was a bit off in the direction
It's a tad southEast of Fort Worth.

That's kind of a weird thing with me. Whenever I read about little towns in a book or hear about 'em in a movie, I gotta find 'em on a map.

Peter Bogdanovich made me a cappy hamper in that sense with "The Last Picture Show" and "Paper Moon." :D

Not even the one where it was centered — though I seem to recall reading that the name of it was fictionalized. Can't remember the name of the town where it was shot, though.

Now, "Paper Moon" — besides St. Jo(seph), where they were headed, there were Gorham and Lucas and Waldo and... I just found one on the map in that area called Covert.

What the hell's it doing on the map?

52. Yeah, and I got it right after Atlanta,
so I was looking for Augusta, GA.

I wonder how many of these cities are inaccurately placed.... for example, it shows Fort Smith, AR just east of Tulsa, OK, which it's not. Fort Smith is located at the vertex of the 'angle' of the Arkansas state line. The dot they have is more accurately Fayetteville or Springdale. Although, since it's right on the line, it's actually Siloam Springs.

32. I'm reminded of a bit from an 'All in the Family' episode
Lionel explained something to Archie that culminated in the slightly veiled insult, "So, what you need to do, Mr. Bunker, is... shove yours."

Archie: "Y'know, a guy could take that two ways."

Mike: "Yeah, but, knowing Lionel, I think he only meant it one way."

Archie: "Yeah, I guess you're right."

:D

48. Okay, I went back. Since the map didn't load, I thought you typed in the
state where the city was located...

It was harder to find on the map, for sure. And twice I clicked on the dot that should have been one city, but it was so close to another city that it registered for the wrong city.

Here's one that's a lot easier: http://www.pibmug.com/files/map_test.swf
